According to the latest population figures, there is a growing pool of married women in Singapore who do not have children. In 2020, 13.5 per cent of married women in their 40s did not have children - up from 9.3 per cent in 2010. This follows a similar pattern across all age bands, including those in their 30s and 50s and older. For some of these women, it is biology that has made the decision for them. But for the others, it is a choice driven by pragmatic, ideological or personal reasons. Since society still links womanhood to motherhood, many of them face pressure to procreate, and are often labelled selfish or even unnatural for not wanting children. It does not help that Singapore's total fertility rate has fallen to its lowest ever at 1.1 last year, after declining for the past decades. While married women who are childless by choice are still the exception, rather than the norm, an ongoing government review on women's issues has sought to understand why some couples have not jumped on the parenthood bandwagon.

And now, for Margarine. Very high in trans fatty acids. Triple risk of coronary heart disease. Increases total cholesterol and LDL (this is the bad cholesterol) and lowers HDL cholesterol, (the good cholesterol) Increases the risk of cancers up to five fold. Lowers quality of breast milk. Decreases immune response. Decreases insulin response. And here's the most disturbing fact... HERE IS THE PART THAT IS VERY INTERESTING! Margarine is but ONE MOLECULE away from being PLASTIC.. This fact alone was enough to have me avoiding margarine for life and anything else that is hydrogenated (this means hydrogen is added, changing the molecular structure of the substance). You can try this yourself: Purchase a tub of margarine and leave it in your garage or shaded area. Within a couple of days you will note a couple of things: * no flies, not even those pesky fruit flies will go near it (that should tell you something) * it does not rot or smell differently because it has no nutritional value; nothing will grow on it Even those teeny weeny microorganisms will not find a home to grow. So for the last 2 weeks in a battle to select one HB for missus Citroen C4 SX. Decided to go for a new one new as it made more sense as the depreciation is no different from used one. Below are my personal FR where most are conti based made choices with budget below 120k: 1.Opel a. Astra K: Good looking and with most features under 100k but alas, no more selling. Would have want to choose this. b. Crossland: Too cartoon like. Next........ 2.Audi a. A3: Looks handsome but most pricey at 120k. Though FL but profile does look a bit dated. 3. VW a. Golf: The entry golf is just below 100k but features are rather pathetic. Halogen lights and no keyless start. 4.Nissan a. Note: Made in Jap but whole car looks budget and from the 80s. 4. Hyudai a. i30: Looks good with fresh design inside out. But lacked the conti feels although its czech made. 5. Honda a. Fit/jazz: Looks and feels much better then Note and both cars rear legroom is generous. Its an understatement to say its big. 6. Mini a. One: Impressive build quality and cutest of them all with a BMW 3 cylinder 1.5L unit. Drive is good and the handling is impressive that points to everywhere you wanna to. Ride a bit jittery probably because of short wheelbase 7. Seat a. Leon/ibiza/ Ateza: None with build quality that impressed me. 8. Skoda: a. Rapid: As above of Seat. 9. Used (fairly new) wowo V40 a. could not stand the ah pek style steering wheel. Next...... 10. Infinity Q30. almost want to go showroon but was a diesel unit and she travels too little for it. Next.... 11. Pugeot a. 308/2008: rear legroom small and uncomfy. No discount or promotion. What would be your choice and we have decided it, more like i decided for her.

Today's Straits Times got one article mentioning the above statement. They even did a test on Impreza and WRX with different grades and brands of petrol for best power output. With different engine speed (rmp) on both cars, it shows that 95-octane has the best result! Of cos there are many other factors not put into consideration. However, I think this is a good indicator for some of us.

In Singapore driving context what is your choice of auto-transmission? CVT or DCT/DSG or AT(torque converter). For those who are lucky enough to have driven all three types, what are the pluses, minuses or quirks of these transmissions when applied to driving on Singapore roads and conditions. For noob like me who only has driven AT only, it would really give a good insight. Ok, thats it. I have seen just too many such Audi drivers, not to make this statement. Today just 20mins of driving, have met 3 reckless Audi drivers spoiling for a race which i will not bite. S5, A5 and A4. Seems like it is the current ah beng reckless drivers' top choice becos of the following reasons 1. Cheaper more affordable hp for hp compared to BMW, Mercy yet somewhat in the same prestige segment 2. Higher prestige than VW, VolVo and Saab 3. Turbo charged engines for many models makes for easy upgrades and mods Driver is usually a fairly new entrant to the Conti scene (less than 5 yrs) Driver always trying to prove a point, iwonder why? Inferiority complex? I dont get that from BMW drivers generally. Never from Bentleys. Occasionally from some C Class drivers which i write off most of the time anyway. Hardly from GTRs, once from a Maser. So can someone second my observations? Maybe Audis have just gotten too common in the last few years? Can these idiots just leave me alone to enjoy my Family car? Despite the Government's push to get more motorists to switch to public transport, the car is still their preferred choice, a new study has found. Even if a commuter lives within a 10-minute walk of a train station, his average train usage drops by 15 per cent when he has access to a car, researchers found. Younger respondents also said they preferred driving, even during peak hours. Some 37 per cent of 16- to 24-year-olds indicated they prefer cars, compared to 26 per cent of commuters aged 35 to 54 and 18 per cent of those aged 55 and above. During off-peak travel, the figures were higher - to 43 per cent, 32 per cent and 21 per cent respectively. Even though most respondents recognised that cars are the main culprits of congestion, they would not be willing to ditch their vehicles. These were among key findings of a study of 1,500 people carried out between July 2012 and last month by Dr Pallab Saha of the National University of Singapore in collaboration with the Land Transport Authority. The findings were shared with delegates at the inaugural Singapore International Transport Congress and Exhibition yesterday. Dr Saha said people here are still too reliant on cars, despite the Government's efforts to beef up the public transport network and tighten vehicle ownership. Almost one in two Singapore households owns a car. "The car becomes aspirational because you've to pay (in excess of) tens of thousands of dollars for a car and the COE," said Dr Saha. "It is something that one can use to project social success." However the study also found that nearly two-thirds of motorists would take public transport if it becomes more costly to buy and use a car, and if there are fewer parking spaces. Eight in 10 said they are likely to make the switch if they are given accurate information of arrival and departure times at bus stops, more areas are accessible by bus and train routes, and public transport capacity is increased. Okay supposing your regime is to change oil at 5k and have to choose between - Mobil 1 0W40 (gold bottle) fully syn at about $90 for 4 L - c-----e's 0W30 fully syn at about $35 for 5L with a can of free oil addictive, which would you choose ? What if OCI set at 10K ? Also, how would Prestone 5W40 fully syn compared to the above (price and quality) ? Driving is 60/40 (60% city), short to mid distances (5 to 20km)

Driving schools use certain models in their fleets. Does it mean that these are modes suitable as value-for-money, no-frills, tough-as-rock choice for buyers who want to buy a new/used reliable and low maintenance car? There must be some reasons similar to above why they are chosen by driving schools.
