  1. Despite the recent massive recalls of Hyundai cars, the South Korean automaker keeps on trying to attract customers with its vehicle lineups. This time, it's the 'baby' Sonata's turn to amaze customers with its styling and features. Officially known as the Mingtu, the Chinese media prefer to call it the Sonata Lite. Regardless of what the more appropriate name is, the car looks quite attractive indeed. Judging from the leaked image, the Mingtu sports some visual styling cues that come from its bigger brother, the original Sonata. Yet, it has its own uniqueness to show as well. The headlamps, for example, are not the same as those of its bigger brother. Also, on the front bumper, there're LED daytime running lights ready to assist the car in terms of illumination. The Hyundai Mingtu is actually intended to occupy the gap that exists between the Sonata and the Elantra in a new segment in the Chinese car market. Rumour has it that this 'baby' Sonata will feature both 1.8 and 2.0-litre engines along with a six-speed manual or an automatic transmission. The image of the Mingtu can be seen on a billboard next to Hyundai's stand in the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show. If you can't wait to see this little baby with your own eyes, don't miss out the event that will start opening its doors to the press on the 20th April 2013.
  2. If you own a Hyundai car, especially the Elantra, you might want to be more careful and try to avoid accidents as much as you can. Otherwise, you might risk ending up slicing your ear or probably even other body parts. No, we aren't making things up. This has happened to at least one Hyundai owner that we know of. It's a common thing for airbags to deploy in the event of a crash. However, for this sedan model from Hyundai, the Elantra, the deployment of the airbags just might prove not to be as smooth as expected. Thing is, when the airbags are deployed, a headliner support bracket will also be propelled. Unfortunately, in the case of the Hyundai Elantra, the bracket might become loose and even be completely dismounted. As a result, the bracket might end up flying across the car cabin, carrying a possible threat of causing laceration injuries to any of the passengers inside the car. The Elantra owner we talked about earlier had his ear sliced by this headliner support bracket and had reported it to Hyundai. According to Hyundai, this defect only applies to its aforementioned sedan model units that were built sometime between 2011 and 2013. To address this issue, the South Korean automaker is now recalling 186,254 units of the Elantra affected. For Elantra owners that have yet to receive notification from Hyundai or to find out more about this defect, it's advisable to contact Hyundai. Well, while we honestly think that it's possible to fix this issue simply by applying adhesive strips to the headliner, we do recommend that you contact your local Hyundai dealerships that will apply the fix in the upcoming May. Chances are, you will get the fix for free anyway.

1.6m units of Hyundai and KIA cars recalled

In 2009, Hyundai and KIA had to recall 700,000 units of their models due to defective brake switches. Unfortunately, not learning from their experiences, these South Korean automakers repeat their mistake and this time, it's even worse. They now have to recall a total of 1.6 million units of cars they have produced due to the exact same problem. The brake switch defect may prevent the brake lamps from illuminating even when the brake pedal is actually stepped on. Of course, this is a big deal as it may trigger rear-end collisions. In addition to that, the defect may fail to cancel the cruise control feature while braking, prevent the push-button starter from functioning, and may even block the gear shift in the neutral position. Both KIA and Hyundai will start contacting dealers and customers of the affected models in June 2013 and will provide necessary replacements free of charge. The list of the affected models is as follows: - 2007 KIA Sedona - 2007-2009 Hyundai Tucson - 2008-2009 Hyundai Veracruz - 2007-2010 KIA Rondo - 2007-2010 KIA Sportage - 2007-2010 Hyundai Elantra - 2007-2011 KIA Sorento - 2007-2011 Hyundai Santa Fe - 2010-2011 KIA Soul - 2010-2011 Hyundai Genesis Coupe - 2011 Hyundai Sonata - 2011 KIA Optima
  4. My ride is the Elantra 2011 and I have encountered an issue when starting the engine. When I tried to start the engine, the interior meter lights and the Car Entertainment system turned on for a split second before going off again and the engine failed to start. The engine will not start when I tried to start it, throughout this time the Car Entertainment system and meter lights did not turn on. All of this is resolved when I open the car door and closed it, and everything works fine. So far I encountered this issue 3 times in the past 2 weeks. And each time it happens, I have to reprogram my settings again. Any Elantra owners out there encountered this issue?

Prepare yourself for the zombie apocalypse

When preparing a suitable vehicle for any upcoming zombie apocalypse, a Hyundai Elantra Coupe might not be the first option that comes to your mind. Although it is fuel economical (a good thing, considering there will be no petrol kiosks in operation during a zombie apocalypse), but it lacks the finesse needed for zombie-attacking situations. Recently, Hyundai tried to convince us that the Elantra Coupe is suitable for such situations by showing off renderings of a zombie-proof version. The car was sketched in honour of the 100th episode of The Walking Dead comic series. Now the car is ready and it was recently displayed at Comic-Con in San Diego, California. The specially modified Elantra Coupe was designed by Robert Kirkman, who created the Walking Dead comic series. The car received a zombie plow, window grates, roof hatch, and a trunk filled with electric and pneumatic weapons, among others. The owner

    Hyundai Elantra Coupe spy shots

The new Hyundai Elantra was only released worldwide less than one year ago. It is a good-looking mid-sized four-door sedan if you were to compare it with other Asian models from the same category. Sometime early this year, there have been reports that Hyundai will be releasing a coupe version of the current-generation Elantra. Hyundai dismissed those reports and denied any of it. But spy shots of an Elantra Coupe test car have surfaced in the World Wide Web. Somehow, it is rather confirmed that Hyundai is releasing a coupe version of the Elantra and judging from the pictures, we might see it real soon. The picture shows a heavily camouflaged car, most of the exterior is covered. It is clear that the car

New Avante shows its inner beauty

If you have been wondering what the interior of the all-new Avante looks like, here's the first official photo of the compact sedan's cabin. As expected, the overall design of the dashboard continues the same "sculpted" theme seen on the new Sonata's interior, enhanced with more edges and swoopy lines. It also gets an instrument panel with a pair of tunneled main gauges (speedometer and tachometer), as well as plenty of faux metal trim. The door handles remind me of the all new Opel Astra that will be arriving on our local shore soon. The new Avante is launched in South Korea in April 10 at the Busan international Motorshow with Hyundai's new 1.6-liter direct injection straight four petrol engine, putting out 140-horsepower and 166Nm of peak torque. Hyundai may have a winner here with a perfect combination of internal and external beauty, and not to mention an innovative powerplant.

    2011 Hyundai Elantra / Avante

Looks like a good looker. http://blogs.edmunds.com/straightline/2009...ai-elantra.html
  12. Hyundai has been very busy lately as it progresses through round two of its 24/7 product renewal program. Just days after unveiling the new Accent/Verna in Beijing, Hyundai has revealed its next generation Elantra/Avante at the Busan Motor Show in South Korea. Like the smaller Accent, the Elantra has picked up the "fluidic sculpture" styling cues of its big brother the Sonata. By virtue of its larger size, the Elantra retains more of the sleeker profile of the Sonata and doesn't look as stubby as the Accent. Like the Sonata, the new Elantra gets a direct injected inline-four, in this case a 1.6-liter based on the Gamma engine family. For the Elantra the GDI 1.6 generates 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. In combination with a new six-speed automatic transmission, the Elantra should get about 10 percent better fuel economy. The Avante will go on sale in South Korea in the second half of this year and we'd expect to see it state-side with Elantra badges early in 2011. No word yet on whether we will get a hybrid version of the new Elantra.

    Next generation Avante unveiled

Only days after the unveiling of the new Verna in Beijing, Hyundai rolled out the next generation Avante saloon at the 2010 Busan International Motor Show. Boasting a much sportier look than its rather dull predecessor, the new Avante continues Hyundai's 'fluidic sculpture' design philosophy that most automakers would describe today as a "four-door coupe". There are no photos of the new Avante's cabin, but we can assume that the interior styling will be heavily influenced by the larger Sonata. Hyundai has kept most technical details to itself at the moment, but the South Korean maker did reveal that the front-wheel drive Avante will be offered with the new 1.6-liter Gamma Gasoline Direct Injection (GDI) engine mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The four-cylinder unit is rated at 140 horsepower with 166Nm of peak torque and is claimed to be 10% more fuel efficient than its closest competitors according to Hyundai. Technical goodies include High Intensity Discharge headlamps, LED combination lamps in the rear, heated rear seats, puddle lamps and a color TFT LCD information display nestled in the gauge cluster. 14. A Korean car forum member has captured undisguised images of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra. Featuring a "fluidic sculpture" design, the Elantra is virtually identical to the 2011 Sonata. Both cars have four-door coupe styling, sweptback headlights, a swoopy grille, and rearview mirrors with integrated LED turn signals. The only major difference is a shortened wheelbase. Inside, the Elantra features a classy dashboard with metal accents and black trim. Other highlights include a leather-trimmed steering wheel, two huge instrument pods, and angular door pulls. While details are limited, engine options will likely include a 1.6-liter four-cylinder and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder with 198 hp (148 kW / 201 PS) and 184 lb-ft (249 Nm) of torque.
  15. 2011 Hyunda Elantra aka Avante Spy Shot: The first clear shots of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra's interior have appeared on Korean web forums. These pictures show a completely undisguised dashboard whose design inspiration comes from the new Tucson and 2011 Sonata sedan. Two tone inserts and a redesigned centre console are of a higher class and quality. Engines are still unknown but it's expected that the entry-level model will be a 1.6-litre four cylinder direct injection while a more powerful 2.0-litre Theta also beckons. Rivals are now sporting potent turbo diesels and the Elantra might just sneak in the new 2.0-litre R diesel worth over 400Nm mainly for European markets. A hybrid is also being whispered about. The 2011 Elantra might start appearing at US auto shows during the second half of the 2010. Looks like this is going to be Hyundai Interior signature liao..... Source: Worldcarfans
  16. This is a further update to my earlier post on the all new Hyundai Elantra. Now, we have the first clear images of the completed interior of the brand's popular compact offering. Hyundai has ditched the conservative design of the current Elantra in favor of a rather radical and polarizing one, not unlike the cabin designs seen in the new Sonata and Tuscon. It takes the instrument cluster layout from the Tucson crossover and the steering-wheel design from the new Sonata, while centre console is a mixture of both. Although it is not an all-new design, I find it quite refreshing especially when compared to the more conservative cockpit of the Toyota Corolla. I also like the design of the interior door handle, which looks classy and stylish. However, I find the gearbox console a bit of an eye sore. It's oversized in my opinion and looked rather squarish. Here's another image of the interior, taken from the driver's door angle. The contour of the dashboard at the passenger side reminds me of the current Civic, which projects an airy sensation. The sales date has not been confirmed for the 2011 Elantra. However, sources report that the launch date is tentatively scheduled for July of 2010.

    Upcoming Korean "battleship"

If the success of the latest Kia Cerato Forte has caught the attention of the Japanese, they better be well prepared for the next assault in the form of the all new 2011 Hyundai Elantra (or Avante in our Singapore Market). The coupe-like roofline of the new Elantra echoes the design philosophy of the new Sonata. Expect the new Elantra to be powered by a new 1.6-litre gasoline direct injection engine, mated to the group's latest six-speed automatic transmission. Certain Japanese 1.6-litre (or even 2.0-litre) models still employ a four-speed automatic gearbox. I hope that the rise of the Koreans will give them a wake up call.
  18. In JD Power Initial Quality Study (IQS) 2009, - Hyundai is 4th overall with 95 problems per 100 vehicles, beating Honda, Toyota & Mercedes-Benz - Hyundai Elantra, badged as Avante in Singapore market, Tops Compact Car Segment, beating Honda Civic. - Hyundai Genesis "perform(s) considerably better than their respective segment averages". See link *This post is to brace yourselves for the upcoming Komoco advertisements bragging about these awards.
  19. Hi, Need your advice on this. I'm intending to do away with a '96 Hyundai Elantra. It has 1 year left and I'm wondering which would be a better deal for me. 1) To deregister it (But I dont want the rebate, I want CASH!) 2) To sell it to 2nd hand car dealer (What are the things to look out for. Got reports of CON Cases by car dealers). Await your valuable advice. Thanks!!
  20. Just bought this 2001 car recently, din really see any on the roads. Mine's a 5 door manual version. anyone still owns this? would like to check the FC currently, mine's doing about 10km/l (light footed driving below legal speed limits 90% of the time) which seems quite bad for a manual car... any comments?
  21. Komoco Motors has been very agressive in its marketing efforts recently, but the question is how long will it take for sales figures of the the Elantra to overtake the Corolla? Or will it ever become a reality?
