  9. Before anyone asks, not me. But someone I know personally. And would like to see whether my opinion coincides with everyone else's. Will reveal my opinion at a later time so as not to influence perspectives of replies. :) Info is as accurate as I can rem. Let's assume I didn't rem wrongly. My question is right at the end. Personal stats: - Male - Age: 30 - Married - Singaporean Academic background: - Top AU uni education - Undergrad finance - Masters in Economics - Both 2nd Upper Hons - Five years overseas - Straight A student from poly onwards Personality: - Very well-spoken in English. Very. Extremely eloquent - Very knowledgeable. Professional experience (total 3 years of work experience) - most recent placed last - {Starting after grad) 1.5 years entrepreneurial experience (partnership that closed), then... - 1 year in managerial position in govt, then finally... - 0.5 years in sales in financial services Here comes the question. He recently was headhunted and offered a job at a US MNC here in Singapore. He was offered >$5,500/mth. As mentioned, I'll reveal my own opinion after you guys offered yours. Thanks guys! Just a non-serious discussion la. He's a very close friend of mine. Like a brother. And I feel he's a very talented person with big things yet to achieve. And I feel for him sometimes, but a little guilty that some of my recommendations to him didn't pan out for him cos I really want him to do well. So I wanna know whether I have a biased opinion or not. And he also asked me that question.

  16. Well folks, just to narrate an incident involving an ugly motorist and his group of friends. (or cousins perhaps)... I was at Autobacs yesterday to change my horn. It was afternoon and pouring cats and dogs... Was smoking as this ugly incident happened. There was an old lady cleaner cleaning the racks at the carpark, near the entrance. This Colt Ralliart Turbo pulled in, splashing the puddle of water at the old lady drenching her completely. The driver didn't give 2 hoots and continued to park his car (revving it purposely, although it doesn't sound impressive honestly).. He alighted once his "supercar" is parked, giving the poor lady a sheepish and "I'm superior.. you should have gotten out of my way" look.. The worse part, his passengers (2 of them, one fat F*** and the other, a 4 eyed toad) eluded the same arrogance as they passed the old lady, murmuring something in their language which I didn't understand... They were also mimicking the old lady's weak attempts as she tried drying herself, while breaking into loud laughter amongst themselves.. I couldn't stand it so I went to the vending machine and bought a warm cup of coffee for the old lady (I mean, she's old, frail and pitiful.. my blood boiled as I thought... she could have been my mom... ). So I went about, looking for my horn.... When I finally decided on which to purchase, the sales assistance directed me to the cashier... the irritating trio was just queueing behind me... I ignored them.. As my turn approached, I paid for my buy and asked the cashier a few question (eg how long was the installation, whether they will have to remove my bumper, etc etc... ) The cashier didn't know and had to ask the mechanics. The trio became impatient and made loud remarks (again in their language) while gesturing rudely at me... Well to be honest, I didn't know what they were talking about, but it looked as if they were irritated as I was taking up their time, by asking about my own purchase...... Come on, I have every right to enquire about my purchase as I'm paying for it with my own money... Some ppl just think they're a cut above the rest - - - With no obvious reason to support this because 1) They don't look intelligent 2) They don't behave civilised 3) They don't look rich 4) They don't even look like professionals (PS: They're not foreigners by the way, when I mentioned I couldn't understand their language, its because I'm not their race... sorry, no pun intended...) Lastly and most importantly, they don;t even have a heart and basic respect for elderly folks.... Yes, I know you probably think your Colt turbo is a F1 car... but in reality, its not.... so pls don't have the ego of an F1 driver... and pls have a heart....
  17. Ross Brawn has revealed that he is "happier" now than when he was solely in charge of a team bearing his own name. In the wake of Honda's shock exit at the end of 2008, the Briton and a group of team management took over and won last year's title. But for 2010, Brawn GP was bought out to become Mercedes's new works team, with the 55-year-old staying on board as team principal. Brawn's passion and focus has always been on the engineering side, and he told the Financial Times this week: "To perform in the best possible way, I'm happier not being the majority shareholder." He said he only ever owned the team "by default", and while able to run the highly-competitive chassis designed with Honda's huge resources, was financed only by the Japanese marque's parting EUR2 million gift. Brawn explained that F1 teams usually work "to a budget that is guaranteed two to three years ahead. "But here I was in a situation where there was no budget. You had to do as well as you could and make the company as viable as possible while spending the minimum amount of money doing it." Source: GMM

  24. Source: http://sg.news.yahoo.com/afp/20080520/tts-...ce-c1b2fc3.html AFP - 1 hour 12 minutes ago LONDON (AFP) - - The price of oil rocketed to a record high 129.46 dollars on Tuesday as investors dived into a market driven higher by concerns about tight global energy supplies and strong demand. After striking the historic summit, New York's main oil futures contract, light sweet crude for June delivery, pulled back slightly to stand at 129.16 dollars a barrel, up 2.11 dollars on Monday's close. London's Brent crude contract for July hit an all-time peak of 127.73 dollars Tuesday. It later stood at 127.41 dollars, up 2.35 dollars. The market was reacting to oil supply disruptions in France and OPEC's unwillingness to hike output, analysts said. "Overall, (oil) market participants are currently choosing to focus on the supply side, with investors doubting that robust demand for distillate fuels from Asian, Middle Eastern and other emerging market economies would be met with enough supply," said Sucden analyst Andrey Kryuchenkov. French fishermen demanding state aid to cope with soaring fuel costs blockaded France's largest Mediterranean oil depot at Fos-sur-Mer on Tuesday, escalating a 10-day protest movement. Around 50 fishermen used tyres and crates to set up roadblocks cutting access to the Fos-sur-Mer depot, causing a tailback of some 100 tanker trucks that were lined up waiting to enter, according to an AFP correspondent. Bank of Ireland analyst Paul Harris meanwhile said that OPEC's refusal to consider output levels before a meeting in September was "further weighing on supply concerns and adding to upward price impetus." OPEC president Chakib Khelil said Monday the oil group would take no decision on output levels before a meeting in September despite calls by the United States for a hike to dampen soaring prices. Khelil said that he did not expect output to be increased, stressing that "current prices are not based on (traditional) supply and demand." Many officials belonging to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries argue that record oil prices are being driven by speculators rather than investors reacting to the actual supply-demand balance. Weakness in the dollar has also supported prices, with commodities priced in the US currency becoming cheaper for holders of stronger currencies. Oil prices have jumped more than a quarter since the start of 2008, when they struck 100 dollars a barrel for the first time. Also driving the market in recent weeks has been unrest in OPEC member Nigeria, which is also Africa's biggest exporter of oil. US President George W. Bush, during a visit to Saudi Arabia last Friday, pressed the world's biggest oil producer to increase output to help cool runaway prices that are fuelling inflation and weighing on economic growth in the United States and other countries. In response, Saudi Arabia's Oil Minister Ali al-Nuaimi said the kingdom had increased oil production by 300,000 barrels per day from May 10 in response to orders from customers, mostly from the United States.
  25. 1. I was told by someone who drove a Taxi that you can earn between $150 (day shift) to $230 (night shift) a day after paying the Taxi rental & fuel these days. 2. So if we base on the average taking of $190 per day X 30 days, you get $5700 monthly. If base on $230 daily, you will get $6900 monthly. 3. So do you think Taxi drivers are above-average income earner? Regards,
