  1. Forklift operators in S’pore charged for bribery!!! On Dec. 11, two forklift operators in Singapore were charged for allegedly receiving small value bribes from truck drivers. The forklift operators, Chen Ziliang and Zhao Yucun, are Chinese nationals employed by Cogent Container Depot Pte Ltd. According to a press release by the Corrupt Practices Investigations Bureau (CPIB), both of them allegedly obtained bribes in exchange for not delaying the collection of containers. Chen was charged for attempting to obtain a S$1 bribe from a truck driver on Oct. 20, 2017, as well as receiving bribes from other truck drivers between May 2016 and March 2018. Chen’s counterpart, Zhao, was charged for obtaining similar bribes from truck drivers between September 2014 and March 2018. A Straits Times report mentioned that both Chinese nationals were each offered bail of S$5,000 and will be back in court on Jan. 9 next year. “Zero-tolerance approach” to corruptionThe total amount received from bribes was not stated by CPIB. However, CPIB emphasised that Singapore adopts a “zero-tolerance approach” towards corruption, and “bribes of any amount or kind will not be tolerated”: “Employees are expected to carry out their duties fairly instead of obtaining bribes in exchange for favours. Even if the bribe amount is as low as $1, they can be taken to task. Bribes of any amount or any kind will not be tolerated.” Under the Prevention of Corruption Act, any person who is convicted of a corruption offence can be fined up to S$100,000 or sentenced to imprisonment of up to five years or to both.
  2. Driver of Maserati found guilty of causing grievous hurt to policeman, faces 59 other charges Source: https://www.msn.com/en-sg/news/singapore/driver-of-maserati-found-guilty-of-causing-grievous-hurt-to-policeman-faces-59-other-charges/ar-BBXMY4f?li=BBr8Cnr Singapore—Thirty-five-year-old Lee Cheng Yan has been found guilty of voluntarily causing grievous hurt when he dragged police officer Staff Sergeant Khairulanwar Abd Kahar in his Maserati at a speed between 79 km/h to 84 km/h in an incident on November 17, 2017 at Bedok Reservoir Road. He was convicted by District Judge Ng Peng Hong on Wednesday, December 4, who also found him guilty of nine additional charges, which includes obstruction of justice and failing to stop after the accident. This is aside from 59 other charges that Mr Lee is facing, that have to do with illegal money lending and online gambling, which will be ruled on later. Additionally, on the day when he dragged the police officer, he was actually forbidden from driving due to previous traffic violations, and lacked the required third-party risk insurance for his Maserati when the incident occurred. On that day, Officer Khairulanwar apprehended Mr Lee as he drove down Bedok Reservoir Road shortly before 9:30 in the evening, as he had seen that Mr Lee had no seat belt on. The officer then approached the driver’s side of Mr Lee’s car. When he stood beside Mr Lee’s open window, the driver of the Maserati “fled the scene by suddenly reversing the Maserati, before accelerating quickly forward while the victim was standing next to the driver-seat door,” according to Deputy Public Prosecutor Timotheus Koh. Unfortunately, Officer Khairulanwar’s uniform got stuck in the car window, and he was dragged for over 100 meters, finally falling on the road. Mr Lee then drove away. The policeman sustained pain in his right knee, neck and lower back, and had to take 20 days’ medical leave. Mr Lee left the Maserati near Aljunied Road, at Willow Avenue, and later sought refuge with a friend, Jeff Chan, who tried to convince him to turn himself in. He borrowed a shirt from Mr Chan and threw his own shirt away. He was eventually arrested at Mr Chan’s house at 2 o’clock in the morning on November 18 and charged in court on that same day. Mr Lee claimed his innocence, saying he had lent his car to an acquaintance known as “Kelvin,” whom his defence team had never been able to produce at his trials. Nor was Mr Lee himself able to give any pertinent information about “Kelvin“ such as his last name or address. Concerning Kelvin, Senthilkumaran Sabapathy, the Deputy Public Prosecutor on the case told Mr Lee, “You are obviously lying.” The other DPP, Timotheus Koh, said, “The defence is conspicuously silent on the fact that the accused has, to date, failed to produce this Kelvin, even though Kelvin is key to the defence’s case. He said Kelvin was the driver, Kelvin caused grievous hurt, Kelvin drove dangerously. Kelvin is a cornerstone to the defence’s case. Yet all they can muster … is that the accused was not asked by the prosecution and the police for more details about Kelvin.” As he has been deemed a serious flight risk, Mr Lee’s bail was increased from S$10,000 to S$70,000. He will be back in court on January 14, 2020. If he is found guilty, he may receive a maximum jail term of 15 years, as well as caning and/or a fine. -/TISG
  3. Stupidity has no cure. Performing dangerous act and getting charge in court just for a min of "frame" in the virtual world, worth it meh? https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/19-year-old-to-be-charged-with-criminal-trespass-into-singapore-zoo-enclosure SINGAPORE - The police will be charging a 19-year-old with criminal trespass into a rhino enclosure at the Singapore Zoo. In a statement on Sunday (July 11), the police said they were informed by the zoo that he allegedly trespassed into an enclosure and performed a backflip stunt on Dec 17 last year at about 5.40pm. Preliminary investigations revealed that his 18-year-old female companion purportedly filmed him doing the stunt before he posted the video on his TikTok account. On July 8, the police issued her a stern warning for abetting criminal trespass, following investigations and consultation with the Attorney-General's Chambers. He will be charged in court on July 12, under Section 447 of the Penal Code. Criminal trespass offences carry an imprisonment term of up to three months, a fine of up to $1,500, or both.
  4. A Singaporean man who proudly shared a year ago in June 2020 that he graduated from a university in the United Kingdom to become a blue collar prime mover driver in Singapore, has just been charged in court on July 28, 2021 for possessing and transmitting on Telegram obscene materials of women that were possibly leaked and without their consent. How bananas is this story? This completely bananas story has been made even more bananas as the accused, Andy Wong Ming Jun, 28, wrote a piece published in Nikkei Asia five days before his court appearance -- of all things -- slamming the Singapore government for its handling of the Covid-19 cluster linked to KTVs. Here is a blow-by-blow account of what went down and how we got here. The case before the court Wong currently faces 11 charges in total, which is the highest number of charges out of four men hauled to court on July 28, related to allegedly running an obscene Telegram chat group. The four men are aged 28 to 46. Wong's charge sheet included five charges of possessing obscene videos under the Films Act, and six charges of storing more than 1,600 obscene pictures in his electronic devices. He had in his possession more than 2,300 videos in a Lenovo laptop, two thumb drives, a Sony Xperia XZ2 Compact mobile phone and a Secure Digital memory card. Wong allegedly advertised the sale of obscene material, while the other three were administrators. The police said that the Telegram group, "Sam's lots of CB Collection", contained leaked sexual videos and images of women, and these included nude photos, photos of women dressed scantily or in compromising positions, and these were believed to have been circulated on the platform without consent. When did the police first act on this case? The police had received a report against the Telegram group on Oct. 24, 2019. Four men were arrested in November 2019. When did Wong go public with his prime mover driver stint? Wong penned an article published on June 14, 2020 about how he became a prime mover driver. It was well-received at that time as readers found it humbling. Wong wrote that he graduated from the University of Hull in 2017 with an honours degree in politics and history. Besides working full-time as a prime mover driver, he advertised himself at that time as a freelance defence and current affairs writer. This would mean his act of self-promotion was about seven months after he was arrested by the police for his alleged involvement in the obscene Telegram group. What was one revelation in his piece that is disturbing on hindsight? Wong wrote that he became a prime mover driver after just one interview and worked for a PSA Singapore subcontractor. He also wrote: "I found the job in April through the government job portal, MyCareersFuture." This would mean he got the driving job less than half a year after he was arrested by the Singapore police and had a pending case against him. It appeared he was hired by May 1, 2020 for the prime mover driver job. It would also mean he was openly profiling himself and his career development after his arrest and with the police still investigating him then. Who identified Wong as the same person as the prime mover driver? Lianhe Wanbao, in its July 28 newspaper report about the obscene Telegram court case, made the link and was the first to identify Wong as the prime mover driver who wrote about his stint. The Straits Times subsequently identified Wong as the man who penned the Nikkei Asia article. Did Wong appear in other news? Wong was featured in The Straits Times in 2016 as a Singaporean who voted for Brexit. He could do so because he is a Singaporean, and therefore, a Commonwealth citizen, and one who was living in Britain, albeit temporarily. Wong was at that time a student at the University of Hull when the Brexit referendum was underway. This set of circumstances granted him the right to vote in a national election under British law. His vote was for Brexit, because he said he believed he was disadvantaged as a non-EU citizen. Wong at that time said he wanted to settle down in the UK after his studies, but found it difficult. "I find it unfair that law-abiding non-EU citizens... have to face a disproportionate number of hoops to jump through in order to seek a future in the UK after graduating from university, while EU citizens get to have a free pass by virtue of the passport they hold," the 23-year-old Wong told ST then. On hindsight, this logic also appears warped as Brexit was for the nativist elements in Britain to exercise their rights, and by extension, keep foreigners such as Wong out. How did his latest piece slamming the government for the KTV cluster go? Wong's Nikkei Asia piece received a strong rebuttal from the Ministry of Home Affairs on July 28 -- following Wong's court appearance. Sam Tee, a senior director from the Joint Operations Group at MHA, wrote in a rebuttal to the media that it was false for Wong's article to claim that most KTVs in Singapore are fronts for money laundering or illegal brothels run by organised crime cartels. Wong's piece was titled, "The Institutional Failures Behind Singapore's Latest Covid Outbreak". What did MHA say in its rebuttal to Nikkei Asia? Tee said it was false that KTVs were allowed to open recently "without explanation", as alleged by Wong. Wong had also written that the KTV cluster "exposed the pernicious role of organised vice enterprises in Singapore, and the institutional failure of the country's much-vaunted law enforcement to clamp down on them". In MHA's response, Tee shot back at Nikkei Asia: "Your correspondent's stance appears to be based on a stern disapproval of illegal sexual activity. We commend his high moral expectations. But his comments on public policies need to be based on facts, not imagined realities." The rebuttal stung as Wong had just been hauled to court. Tee added: "The cluster was not the reason why the government reimposed stricter safe distancing measures on July 22. A spread into fresh food markets which had the potential for a wider outbreak was the reason." Where else can Wong's writing be found? Wong allegedly posts as the user DaybreaksBell93 on the Reddit forum. In a response to a Redditor who told Wong he should have done more research before he penned his Nikkei Asia piece, DaybreaksBell93 replied: On LinkedIn, Wong also wrote about his stint as a prime mover driver. His LinkedIn piece, "Graduate working as a Blue-Collar? Changing Realities in Singapore", appeared more than a month before his essay was published in the mainstream media. A video from 2015 by Insworld Institute featuring Wong is still online as of July 29:

Son and mother charged with faking death to obtain CPF, insurance claims SINGAPORE: A man and his mother were charged on Friday (Apr 12) with faking her death to obtain Central Provident Fund (CPF) and insurance claims, the police said. Abraham Rock, 35, and his mother Talat Farman, 53, are accused of making more than S$3.7 million in false claims. 10. President's Scholar charged with false entries in SAF documents to have case re-tried http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/...have-case-re-tr By Ian Poh A 28-year-old army captain, who was charged with making false entries in an official document, will have his case re-tried after a military appeals court quashed his conviction. Sherwayn Tan, 28, had been fined $2,000 for falsely indicating he had used a Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) facility to train soldiers under him, and another unrelated charge. He also received a letter of discharge from the Defence Ministry (Mindef) following his guilty plea in a Subordinate Military Court last July. But on Monday, a five-man Military Court of Appeal unanimously decided that that the conviction be set aside following an appeal by the infantry officer, who is also a President's Scholar. Tan holds an Economics degree from the London School of Economics. It is understood the SAF scholar, who enlisted for military service in 2004 and had a clean disciplinary record prior to the offences, is nearing the end of his six-year bond.

You think the Malaysians will protest near Merlion again? http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-26479642 Malaysia: Anwar Ibrahim sodomy acquittal overturned A Malaysian court has overturned the acquittal of opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim on sodomy charges, upholding a government appeal. Mr Anwar led the opposition to its strongest ever performance in the May 2013 general elections. While homosexual acts are illegal in Muslim-majority Malaysia, very few people are ever prosecuted. Mr Anwar has always maintained the charges were part of a political smear campaign. The court decision may affect Mr Anwar's plans to compete in a key by-election in the state of Selangor this month. His lawyers are expected to appeal the court ruling, Reuters news agency reported. 'Selective persecution' In 2008, Mr Anwar was accused of having sex with a male aide. A High Court cleared him of the charges in 2012, citing a lack of evidence. The government later appealed against his acquittal. Ahead of the court decision, rights group Human Rights Watch called the government appeal a "travesty of justice". The group said it was a sign of Prime Minister Najib Razak's "selective persecution of his political opponents". Correspondents say Mr Anwar is seen as the key challenger to the ruling party, which has been in power since Malaysia's independence in 1957. The ruling Barisan Nasional coalition won 133 of the 222 seats in parliament in the 2013 elections - although it won the elections, it was the coalition's worst ever result. Thousands of Malaysian opposition supporters rallied against the result, alleging that the polls were fraudulent. Mr Anwar was previously a member of the Barisan Nasional coalition, but fell out with top leaders and was sacked in 1998. He was then charged with sodomy and corruption, and given a six-year jail term for abuse of power, which sparked huge street protests. In 2000 he was also found guilty of sodomy with his wife's driver and jailed for a further nine years. In late 2004 Malaysia's Supreme Court overturned the sodomy conviction, freeing him from jail. He then emerged as a leader in the opposition movement, leading it to increasingly strong performances in both the 2008 and 2013 elections.

  23. saw this article a few days ago but no time to post until today to sum up the case, girl was fought off her drunk rapist. during the struggle, she broke his erected penis before fleeing. she was charged for causing intentional injury to the rapist because rapist was bleeding badly (when she broke his penis) and she didnt call for help or police in time to save the rapist. how ridiculous is this charge?! http://mp.weixin.qq.com/s?__biz=MjM5MDAxMTgyMA%3D%3D&mid=200664719&idx=1&sn=720a38f5fa80beef9f077487bda8ffce&scene=4#rd
  24. Wa lao... Still can smile somemore. http://www.straitstimes.com/breaking-news/singapore/story/istana-site-hacking-businessman-charged-unauthorised-modification-webp Businessman Delson Moo was charged in court on Friday with two counts of unauthorised modification of computer material under the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act. This is in relation to the recent hacking of an Istana webpage on Nov 8. Moo had allegedly intruded into the website twice at 12.34am that night through its search function and modified the code to cause the site to display a picture of an old woman pointing her middle finger, along with a string of offensive words in Hokkien. The case against the 42-year-old has been stood down until 2.30pm, to allow time for a decision to be made after he requested for the court's permission to leave the country from Dec 4 to Dec 8. Student Melvin Teo, the second suspect reportedly linked to the cyber intrusion of the Istana website, is expected to appear in court at the same time to face charges. The 17-year-old's name was not indicated in the charges against Moo. Moo, who remains on $10,000 bail, arrived at the court earlier at about 9.15 am. He was accompanied by a woman, believed to be his wife, and lawyer M. Ravi. Mr Ravi is also representing James Raj Arokiasamy, whom court documents previously identified as the alleged hacker who used "The Messiah" pseudonym. The 35-year-old accused of hacking the Ang Mo Kio Town Council website has been remanded for further investigations. Police had said previously that the ases against Moo and Melvin are not linked to James Raj, who also faces drug offences committed in 2011.
