  2. Every day, almost a dozen motorcyclists or pillion riders are injured on the roads. Hospitals say they account for more than half of the more serious accident cases, even though motorcycles make up only 15 per cent of vehicles here. Last year, 96 motorcyclists and three pillion riders died - accounting for half of all road deaths. Many riders who survive suffer severe injuries because they are flung and dragged or they land in the path of other vehicles. Fractures are common, and they also suffer internal injuries ranging from brain damage to crushed organs, and could end up in hospital for weeks or months. 4. Anyone know where in Singapore can buy "half" size temp spare tyres. Or anyone has one and want to sell? e.g. those who upgrade to full size spare or those who prefer to save weight and get rid of the spare. Am interested in this specific size: 145/90 D16 or 145/90 R16 (which is actually the same size). Nowadays, many new cars don't come with spares. Am thinking of a half-size spare just in case (esp. for trips to Malaysia).
  5. BY JEFF LEESON Hell hath very literal fury for a husband scorned. A German man seems to be following his divorce agreement to the letter by using power tools to give his ex-wife half of everything he owns. The man posted a video of him cutting chairs, beds and phones in half for his ex with the translated description "Thank you for 12 'beautiful' years, Laura! You've really earned half." He has reportedly sent half of the pieces to his ex and is selling his halves on eBay. As of the time of this post, his car is selling for a little more than $50. Thankfully, it seems like their house is still in one piece.

  10. A 38-year-old man yesterday pleaded guilty to raping and sodomising his half-sister with the help of his wife. The former car grooming coordinator at a petrol kiosk also pleaded guilty to one count of possession of obscene films. The accused, who has been charged with four counts of rape and six of sexual assault, assaulted his half-sister over two days between March 12 and 14 in 2010. The victim, a 21-year-old factory worker, shares the same mother with the accused and is mildly mentally retarded. She was sent to the accused's home, after her other half-brother and his wife, with whom she was living, were upset she wanted to quit her job as a counter staff. At about midnight, the accused told the girl he wanted "to punish her" and wanted her to "feel pain". He told her to remove her clothes, proceeded to remove his and told her to turn around. He then instructed his wife to hold on to the girl's legs and raped her. Throughout the night, the girl pleaded with the accused not to hurt her. He ignored her and at one point hit her head with an ashtray. The victim was unable to run away from the accused's flat the next day as she was watched over by his wife while the accused went to work. When he returned, the accused told his wife to put on a pornographic movie and called for the girl to sit beside him. He then had sexual intercourse with his wife, forcing the victim to "watch and learn from them". Later in the night, he sodomised her. She was subsequently conveyed to the KK Women's and Children's Hospital and a genital examination revealed a ripped vulva and swollen anus. The case has been adjourned for mitigation next Monday. The maximum penalty for rape is 20 years' jail and 24 strokes of the cane while the possession of obscene films incurs a fine of S$1,000 for each film, not exceeding S$40,000 or up to 12 months imprisonment or both. http://www.todayonline.com/Singapore/EDC12...ing-half-sister
  11. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_802913.html Two-and-a-half tales about service Published on May 25, 2012 ON MONDAY, I shopped at Winter Time in 313@Somerset shopping mall, where I was served by a Filipino and a Chinese national. The Filipino showed me many types of luggage, patiently explaining the attributes of each. He reached for one that was hardest to reach because I liked it, and which I finally settled on. In the clothing section, the Chinese national offered helpful advice on the winter wear she thought I would need. When the outfit I liked was not available in my size, she called the other outlets and reserved a set for me. Needless to say, I was impressed by the professional and courteous service. Subsequently, my wife and children visited the outlet at VivoCity and were served by a Singaporean. When my wife asked her about a design on the upper rack, she replied that it was too high and suggested my wife try out an outfit to determine her size before choosing the design. That done, my wife picked the design she wanted, only to be told that it was also too hard to reach. Instead, the salesgirl offered the same design two sizes smaller because it was more convenient. Needless to say, my wife left without buying. Singaporeans are missing a positive attitude, fighting spirit and the drive to achieve more. Our solution to the foreign competition we face is simply to complain. But are foreigners stealing our jobs or are we losing jobs to them? Are employers choosing foreigners because they are cheaper, or because they are better workers? Finally, I offer a vignette from South Korea to round up my pair of anecdotes about service and productivity. When I visited the country, I chanced upon a single attendant manning six kiosks at a petrol station. He directed traffic, pumped petrol and processed credit cards and payments single-handedly. I would bet his boss was not looking to hire a low-wage foreigner. I hope we will adopt a more resilient mentality and a positive attitude. We have the language advantage and if we have the right mindset, there is nothing to fear about this new reality of foreign competition. Lim Chong Jen
  12. A half-naked woman was seen chasing four men in the early hours of yesterday morning in Clarke Quay. Shin Min Daily reported that a photo of the woman was taken by a surprised 16-year-old showing the woman naked from waist down. The woman, who looked like she was in her 20s, was reported to have the clothing on her upper body torn off and her lower body was completely naked. The report in the Chinese evening daily said she was holding her pants and underwear. Witnesses told Shin Min that there were not many people around at the time of 5.25am as she chased the four men, ignoring by-standers. Her friends were also running after her. When the woman reached the men, they became violent towards her by pushing her to the ground and kicking and punching her, according to witnesses. She fought back and tried to stand up, using her hands to block her face. Only when witnesses shouted that the police were coming was when they stopped. Police arrived on the scene and arrested the four men who are currently helping police with investigations. Three of the men are reported to be in their 20s while one man is in his 30s. The woman was also reported to have been seen entering a convenience store to buy a drink, while half-naked, earlier. She is described to have long hair and to have worn a dark-coloured top. I knew the bull run was too good to last. At least Temasek made a billion dollar profit this time, instead of their well-publicised billion dollar losses like in the past.

  19. Health @ AsiaOne http://www.asiaone.com/Health/News/Story/A...113-257964.html More than half of Korean women have athlete's foot Women accuse men of having smelly feet all year long. But during the cold season, it is possible that they are the smellier ones. -The Korea Herald/ANN Thu, Jan 13, 2011 The Korea Herald/Asia News Network By Park Min-young Many women hesitate when ushered into a room with floor-seating instead of to a table when having dinner at a Korean restaurant, especially in the winter. Sure, it could be because they are wearing skirts that are too short or boots that are too much trouble to take off and put back on. But frankly speaking, those might not be the only reasons. "I never say it out loud, but I am worried that my feet might smell or my toes might have bored holes into the stockings. Especially when I have been wearing boots all day long, because I don't know what might have happened inside them," said a 25-year-old office worker who asked to remain anonymous. Women accuse men of having smelly feet all year long. But during the cold season, well, it is possible that they are the smellier ones. According to a 2009 survey by Novartis Korea of 1,000 men and women aged 18 to 54 who live in Korea's four metropolitan cities, 51.5 percent of the women said that they have experienced foot fungus in the winter. Not a surprise, knowing how they fussily pamper their precious feet in the summer but often completely forget about them as soon as they disappear from sight, tucked deep inside a pair of boots. For all who feel guilty, here are some basic steps to make your feet soft and odorless again. #1: Wash them smartly Your feet could easily get sweaty and callused in the winter because they are stuck inside extra warm shoes for most of the day. Such shoes, including boots, are most likely made of non-breathable materials that trap heat and moisture which can cause calluses that lead to dermatitis like athlete's foot and bad odor. Some recklessly try to scrape the calluses off with something sharp, like a knife or a paper cutter. This can be even more dangerous than it sounds because doing so could cut off some of the healthy skin and infect that too. The smart way to remove calluses is to soak your feet in warm water for a while, rub them with a soft towel or brush, wash them with soap and dry them completely. If water remains on the feet, it could be another cause for bad odor. "It is okay to use foot exfoliating tools or cream if the calluses are too thick, but you should avoid using too much force to scrape them off especially when your feet are wet. Not everyone needs to get rid of calluses and excessive exfoliation could irritate the skin even more," said Park Ji-young, dermatologist at ArumdaunNara Dermatology Cosmetic Surgical Center. After cleansing your feet thoroughly, slather on foot lotion or cream that contains callus softeners. Doctors say that moisturizers are always good for the feet. If your feet still feel too dry and chapped, cover them up with plastic wrap or gauze for the night and you will find them much softer in the morning. If time and money permits, visiting a nearby foot massage center or a pedicure shop would be refreshing. Your feet deserve a full-course treatment from scrubs and massages to shiny pedicures from time to time, even in the winter. If you think you have a fungal infection, make sure you see a podiatrist. Young women are often too ashamed to admit that they have foot problems and refuse to go see a doctor. But doctors warn that it may bring on secondary infections or other serious complications if not treated soon enough. "Athlete's foot sometimes gets naturally cured when the season changes, but that is only if the condition is not too bad. In worse conditions, the germs can move on to fingernails and toenails. Then the treatment gets more complicated and it can spread to other people as well," said Park. "High humidity is a major cause of athlete's foot. Winter is a better season to treat the problem than summer because it is relatively drier. But even if you get cured for now it does not mean that you are cured for good. It requires continuous care."
  20. Folks, just wana check wif u guys that is it true that is not advisable to wait till empty then we top up petrol. Reason being the tank will oxidized n rust will form n in the end clog up n will ve to send engine for overhaul. Sounds logical but Im not quite convinced as in the manufacturer shld know about tis n a better material shld b used for the fuel tank. Can someone kind to clear my doubts? Becos of tis issue, my friend who drive a cng car worries as he only keep 1/4 tank of petrol as standby when cng runs low. He will try to clear the old petrol only once a mth and pump in new petrol n maintain 1/4 tank as standby again. Basically he works and stay near a cng station thus he hardly uses petrol. Another question is that is it alright for him to do in this way? Thks.
