  1. http://www.todayonline.com/singapore/publi...not-sustainable And how much of 13 millions is incurred is once-off expense even due to earlier breakdown. 1) legal fee 2) expert fee 3) repair fee ? Already we can account 2mil to fine that incurred because of the breakdown. Makes me wonder how much the CEO is paid and was the sever package Ms Saw received. http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/07/16/...E8IG36W20120716 Singapore subway operator SMRT will be given the maximum fine of S$2 million ($1.58 million) for two major disruptions in December that affected hundreds of thousands of commuters, a regulator said on Monday. SMRT, which also operates buses and taxis, had net profit of S$120 million in its 2011 fiscal year on revenues of nearly S$1.06 billion, according to Temasek's latest annual report. 2. Do you think that those car models that are acquired by PHVs actually helped to boost the sales of these models for private car buyers? i.e. - Honda Vezel / HRV - Mitsubishi Attrage - Toyota Prius - Toyota Prius C - Mazda 3 - KIA K3 - Toyota Vios Does their attributes like riding comfort, fuel consumption, availability of parts, etc, actually helped to boost the sales for the above mentioned models when they are recommended by PHV drivers and riders? Or does it actually turn off buyers, like too common on the roads, long waiting time at servicing centers, etc? Say if PHV doesn't exist here, do the above models even sell for private car market?
  3. [extract] A name is something that we use to distinguish or designate one item from another. For example, in the automotive world, an auto company will give different names for their models to distinguish one model from another. So that when we see a Camry, we know it
  4. http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/nea-clarifies-rules-for-car-emission-scheme National Environment Agency said yesterday petrol models with port fuel injection - where fuel is injected just before the engine's combustion chamber - will not be measured for particulate matter (fine soot). The exemption will apply when the Euro 6 emission standard kicks in in September and when the Vehicular Emissions Scheme starts in January. **** first it was the hoo ha on CAT A and 130 bhp because the dealers got no cars that could compete with turbo charge cars and claim unfair practice. Now, its the lack of ability in terms of port injection and cry foul on Port injection. When will the dealers own up and say we suck on building cars and face the facts and not blame other better cars out there

  6. Made a trip to Seoul recently. Got a chance to sit in my friends' high end Kia and Hyundai. I can easily say their KDMs can give the Thai built Camrys a serious run for their money in terms of build quality and noise isolation.

  16. The ongoing 16th Moscow International Auto Salon (2012 MIAS) is expected to draw more than 1 million visitors whom can browse many new models and concepts including 23 world, 21 European and 85 Russian premieres. Russia with a population of 140 million has an improving economy, where a large number commute by driving old cars. Automakers have an oppurtunity to tap into this market with noteworthy premieres like the new Mazda6 and the facelifted Audi R8. Well, I'm not here to talk about the cars, but to present the equally beautiful booth babes and models that were present. Like any other motor show, there wasn't a drought of beautiful women at the show and here are some that caught my eye. Picture credit: Carscoop
  17. Toyota Motor said on Friday it would roll out eight compact car models tailored for emerging markets by 2015 in an attempt to catch up to front-runners such as Volkswagen (VW) and General Motors (GM). Toyota, which lost the crown as the world's top automaker last year, is looking to reduce its dependence on the mature North American, European and Japanese markets. It wants to shift more of its weight to growth markets such as China, India and Brazil, where Volkswagen, GM and Hyundai Motor have taken the lead. The Japanese automaker aims to sell half of its vehicles in emerging markets by 2015, up from around 45 per cent last year and 18.6 per cent in 2000. 'In emerging markets, there are four or five automakers vying to take the lead in sales volumes,' Toyota executive vice-president Yukitoshi Funo told reporters. 'Particularly in the South-east Asian region, Volkswagen and others are looking to challenge our lead so we can't be resting on our laurels,' he said. Including the Etios model that it launched in India in December 2010, Toyota plans to introduce eight compact cars by 2015, targeting combined annual sales of more than one million vehicles in over 100 countries during that period. The upcoming cars will be priced around 1 million yen (S$16,000) or higher and produced in local markets such as India, Brazil and China. Toyota said it would aim to procure 100 per cent of the cars' components locally to lower costs - a move that would require a stronger research and development function in those markets. By 2013, production capacity in emerging markets will rise to 3.1 million vehicles a year, from 2.38 million in 2010, matching the level in Japan, Toyota said. Mr Funo dismissed a report published in Japan's Asahi newspaper on Thursday that Toyota was working on a car priced around 500,000 yen (S$8,000) for the Indian market, to be sold under a new brand from around 2016. 'We won't go to the 500,000 yen segment - it's not our category,' Mr Funo said. 'We want to beef up our presence in segments where we can be competitive. There are many other options for customers looking in that price range, including used cars.' Mr Funo added that the cheaper segments were the territory of subsidiary Daihatsu Motor, which has expertise in smaller, lower-cost vehicles. Carmakers such as Nissan Motor and Hyundai are considering ultra low-cost cars, potentially tapping a huge base of consumers trading up from motorcycles. Toyota's cheapest car is the Etios, which sells for about US$9,000 (S$11,500) in India, or double the price of market leader Maruti Suzuki India's Alto. 18. I like the body configuration of the RX8:- 4-seater, with better than 2-door access for the rear passengers by use of rear-half-doors. But my concern of high maintenance etc of the rotary engine (which doesnt really improve performance by a lot vs mazda 2.3 turbo engine) keep me away from this model. If Mazda produced the RX8 with a more convention power plant like the 2.3L T as an alternative, they may sell more RX8s? Similarly, proven engines like the old evo engine or the STi engine can also be used in other models for more ommphs.... The Jazz/Fit lineup also lacks a performance version wherelse Polo, etc have it. A great body needs a great engine to produce a winner while the B&B verison can continue to sell to the general car buyers. What other mix-and-match models you can think of?
  19. The last day of the 2012 New York International Auto Show is on the 15th April, and any motor show isn't complete without its beauties. So unless you have time and nearly $13,000 to spend for a 18hr non stop business class flight to New York, the other alternative is to enjoy the gallery below. The blond Audi model, posing beside the R8GT and RS5 has caught my eye, who's yours?
  20. Used to be low/mid range models made by BMW, Merc, or maybe even Audi, but nowadays if you shut your eyes and throw a coke can, you will hit at least half a dozen of them!! :D So what are the new generation Hao-Lianers'' preferred brands/models now??
