A one-car crash left a man injured in Violet Township, near Pickerington on Wednesday. State Highway Trooper Tito Duran said the vehicle, a Volvo S-40, was northbound on Ault Road when it went off the right side of the road, struck a utility pole and flipped several times into a yard before it caught fire. The driver, Zachary Nowicki, 17, walked away from the accident.

What started off as a wild rumor at the beginning of the year will become a reality in a matter of months. Yes, Volvo is preparing to launch its first-ever MPV, which it describes as being a "Scandinavian living room on the move." Known as the EM90, the Swedish family hauler "creates room for your life" and will break cover on November 12 when the order books will open in China, the home of parent company Geely. Instead of a product direct from the R&D centre of the Swedish brand, the EM90 is likely to be based on the Zeekr 009, a wild-looking minivan from one of Geely's many brands.

Polestar has taken the next step in its development as the electric performance brand with the reveal of the new Polestar 2. Polestar 2 is the new all-electric fastback that brings electric performance cars to a broader and increasingly progressive audience. It offers avant-garde design and a unique customer experience in the premium compact electric segment. Polestar 2 is the first electric car to compete in the marketplace around the Tesla Model 3, with the range starting at a guide price of 39,900 euros. For the first 12 months of production, guide price of the launch edition is 59,900 euros. "Polestar 2 is our first fully electric car and first volume model. Everything about it has been designed and engineered with passion and dedication. As an electric performance brand, and through the forthcoming launch of a portfolio of fully electric cars, Polestar is determined to address the world's air quality challenges. Polestar delivers electric performance cars that are great to own and drive," says Thomas Ingenlath, Chief Executive Officer of Polestar. Polestar 2 is a premium five-door fastback with two electric motors and a 78 kWh battery capacity that will enable a targeted range of 500 km, based on Volvo Car Group's adaptable Compact Modular Architecture platform (CMA). The 27-module battery pack is integrated into the floor and contributes to the rigidity of the chassis as well as improves the car's noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) levels - road noise has been reduced by 3.7 dB compared to a traditional chassis. Polestar will answer the important question of charging Polestar 2 with a smart, convenient and extensive approach. With a connected digital solution available both in-car and on mobile devices, Polestar is setting up strategic collaborations to give Polestar 2 owners easy and hassle-free access to the world's largest public charging networks. For Polestar, performance underlies the entire driving experience. The all-wheel drive electric powertrain in Polestar 2 produces 300 kW (408 hp) and 660 Nm (487 lb-ft). This translates to a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of less than 5 seconds. The standard dynamic chassis can be enhanced by the Performance Pack that improves driving dynamics with Öhlins dampers, Brembo brakes and unique 20-inch forged wheels. Polestar's signature gold seat belts, brake callipers and valve caps complete the performance visuals. Highlighting the technology spearhead role that Polestar plays within the Volvo Car Group, Polestar 2 is one of the first cars in the world to embed an infotainment system powered by Android. The Android backbone provides a solid and adaptable digital environment for apps and vehicle functions to coexist, and brings embedded Google services to a car for the first time - including the Google Assistant, Google Maps with support for electric vehicles and the Google Play Store. Natural voice control and a new 11-inch touch screen display bring the new interface to life. Phone-as-Key technology enables car sharing and a more integrated ownership experience, as well as Polestar's connected services such as pick-up and delivery. It also allows Polestar 2 to sense the driver upon approach. Smart features like enlarged graphics in the instrument cluster allow the driver to easily see the charging status and range before entering the car. Polestar 2 can also predetermine the driver's next move to create a seamless experience with a prepared cabin and quick start sequence. Maximilian Missoni, head of Design at Polestar, comments: "We decided to bring something different to the segment. Our avant-garde design has evolved from Polestar 1 into an edgier, bolder statement. We have also designed a standard vegan interior with progressive textiles that will appeal to the forward-thinking audience who will subscribe to Polestar 2." Design-led features include Pixel LED headlights and proximity lighting which enable a unique welcome sequence, Polestar's now-signature frameless side mirrors and the unique illuminated Polestar logo, which is reflected onto the car's panoramic glass roof. In common with all Polestar cars, Polestar 2 will only be available for ordering online. The guide purchase price for the launch version of Polestar 2 is 59,900 euros with subscription pricing to follow at a later date. Pre-orders are open at polestar.com. Production of Polestar 2 begins in early 2020 in China for global markets in both left- and right-hand drive. Polestar 2 will make its first public appearance at the 2019 Geneva International Motor Show in March, and then embark on a global roadshow in Europe, North America and China throughout 2019. Polestar 2 will also be available in a network of soon-to-be-opened Polestar Spaces that will provide physical viewing and test drive opportunities. Volvo is pretty renowned for how safe their cars are. The brand’s models qualify for the highest possible safety rating from the IIHS (International Institute for Highway Safety) and there's tons of airbags to protect the car's occupants no matter the point of impact. Nonetheless, this driver’s behaviour still isn’t advisable. What happened? On 1st May at Thomson Road, a camcar was minding their own business when a Volvo V40 tried to merge from a minor road to the major road that the cam car is on. It is unclear what was the Volvo driver’s thinking process but it had to be influenced by something (probably starting with A) in order to think this was a good idea. The Volvo driver went across not one, not two, but three lanes before stopping just in time to avoid kissing the wall and expensive repairs. According to the Facebook post, a bus also needed to jam brakes along with the camcar. It’s a shame there’s no audio in the footage because I know it’d be colorful. The Volvo then drove off without a word, but likely with stained pants. Online chatter Once again, the standards of our driving school are called into question. This is supposedly the 3rd generation XC90, which Volvo decided to give it a name change to signify the switch to all electric drive train. Earlier reports, however, suggested that the model, which it is said will blend SUV and sedan design elements, will be named Embla, after the first woman in Norse mythology. I got 2022 XC60 B5, the facelift comes with Android entertainment system, I like the new system than the old one in my previous 2018 XC60, specially on the more practical navigation system - Google Maps. But there is a big downside - no road signs info for Singapore! No speed limit sign, no speed camera sign/warning, no school zone sign... Can't believe it is totally unavailable in the latest Volvo car model as it seems to be a basic feature in a car system nowadays. Is this Volvo or Google's problem?

Most people in Singapore purchase an SUV for its spacious body rather than its utility. And that makes sense as it is almost impossible to put an SUV to the test in a city environment such as Singapore. However, a particular Volvo driver did just that. Watch it here: What Happened? And truth be told, that was exactly what a Volvo XC40 driver experienced. After getting impatient with the long wait, he decided to perform a 'u-turn' (which is obviously illegal). Leveraging his SUV's ground clearance, the Volvo driver mounted the kerb and proceeded to make a 5-point turn to get himself out of the standstill jam. NGL, I am pretty amazed at the Volvo driver's attitude to performing whatever he did in the video above. Some possible reasons for his actions are: 1. Forgetting to bring his passport 2. Need to use the toilet urgently 3. To escape the heavy congestion 4. Got fuel check + his petrol tank below the mandated 3/4 tank What do you think made the Volvo driver perform the 'u-turn'? Volvo Cars bets on electric vehicles Volvo Cars is only going to sell electric vehicles by 2030, the Swedish firm has said. It will phase out all car models with internal combustion engines by then, including hybrids. The carmaker is also planning to invest heavily in online sales and simplifying its products. It is trying to capitalise on growing demand for electric cars, including in China, which is already one of its biggest markets. Carmakers are also responding to pressure from governments around the world to beef up their electric car plans. New cars and vans powered wholly by petrol and diesel will not be sold in the UK from 2030, for example. "To remain successful, we need profitable growth. So instead of investing in a shrinking business, we choose to invest in the future - electric and online," said chief executive Hakan Samuelsson. Its online push means customers will be able to order cars to their own specification online, but also through a dealership. Volvo will not be investing in cars with hydrogen fuel cells, as it does not think there will be enough demand from customers. There is also a question mark over hydrogen's availability in comparison with charging points for electric cars, a spokesman said. Volvo previously announced that by 2025, half of its sales would be fully electric, with the rest being hybrids. "There is no long-term future for cars with an internal combustion engine," said Henrik Green, the firm's chief technology officer. In February, Volvo abandoned plans to merge with Chinese car giant Geely. But the two companies said instead that they would form a partnership to make components for electric cars that would be used by both firms. Global carmakers continue to pursue alliances to spread the cost of the transition to electric cars, tougher emission rules and autonomous driving, as well as pooling expertise and resources. In January, shareholders approved a merger between Fiat Chrysler and France's PSA Group, creating the world's fourth biggest carmaker. The Swedish brand doesn't pull any punches, either, choosing to call its newly darkened sedan the S60 Black Edition. Simple name, simple upgrades; hard to find fault with that. As the name suggests, the S60 Black Edition wears plenty of black trim on the outside, starting with the grille surround and Volvo badging in the middle. Moving to the side you'll find black window trim and side mirrors, but the major update comes with the wheels. The Black Edition gets an exclusive set of 19-inchers with a gloss black finish, and there's more black trim at the back with the Volvo lettering on the decklid. Even the exhaust tips are blacked out for this special model. Volvo doesn't mention any special updates for the interior, but the S60 Black Edition is offered in just two exterior colors. Crystal While Metallic offers a sharp contrast with the black trim, or for those who truly want the darkest Volvo of all time, Onyx Black Metallic creates a monochrome look. The Black Edition is purely an appearance package, so all the S60 mechanicals under the skin remain the same – a boosted 2.0-liter four-cylinder working with some measure of electric power that offers up to 415 horsepower (309 kilowatts) in range-topping PHEV trim. Volvo 40.1 Concept (XC40) Volvo 40.2 Concept (S40) 40.1 and 40.2 concepts are built on Volvo’s CMA platform After showing teasers on Snapchat, Volvo has now officially revealed two new concept cars. Dubbed 40.1 and 40.2, the cars preview new Volvo 40 Series models and are most likely a hint as to the design of the next Volvo S40 and XC40. Both the concepts pick up design cues seen on the Volvo XC90, S90, and V90, starting with the “Thor’s Hammer” running lights and wide-mouth grille with Volvo’s Iron Mark emblem. The 40.1 is a crossover design with high ground clearance, black fender cladding, and darkened pillars and a black roof. Taut lines define the bodywork, while the sloped rear window is bookended by L-shaped taillights. The 40.2, meanwhile, is a lower and more sedan-like car, with its C-shaped taillights that more closely match the design of the new S90 sedan. As with the 40.1, the 40.2 concept rides relatively high on its large alloy wheels, with black cladding around the fender recalling the tough, high-riding stance of the S60 Cross Country. The Volvo 40 cars will be the first to ride on the company’s new CMA modular platform. Smaller than the SPA platform used for the XC90/S90/V90, CMA will also accommodate a plug-in hybrid drivetrain, in this case called T5 Twin Engine. That powertrain will incorporate a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission and a three-cylinder gasoline engine, as well as electric motors. The CMA platform will also add an all-electric model, though it won’t arrive until sometime after Volvo’s larger, SPA-based EV debuts in 2019. The 40.1 and 40.2 concepts represent Volvo’s contention that the global appetite for “premium small cars” will continue to grow over the coming years. “CMA has helped us to capture something special, something youthful in our new concept cars,” Volvo Car Group senior vice president of design Thomas Ingelath said in a statement. “They have an energy, a disruptive and engaging urban character that makes them stand out amongst the crowd. Is the Volvo really 'suey' or is this just karma hitting him? In this video, a cam car tries to turn into a busy main road along Changi. Situated behind him, a white Volvo follows closely behind. The white vehicle creeps closely behind when the cam car driver enters the main road through a yellow turning box. Due to the heavy traffic condition, the cam car cannot entirely turn out and remains in the box while waiting for the green light. Noticing that there is still space in the box, the Volvo driver enters beside the cam car. As the light turns green, vehicles from all lanes start to accelerate. The cam car turns into the second lane while the Volvo tries to cut to the very first lane. This, however, proves to be a disaster as an oncoming Fuso truck fails to slow down in time and T-bones the Volvo. This shocks the cam car driver, who let out a ‘Woah, woah!’ at the end of the video. Who is at fault here? Before moving off, drivers should check their mirrors and blind spots to ensure that the road is clear. Drivers of heavy goods vehicles must also have additional blind spot mirrors or devices installed to better detect pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and other motorists who are in their blind spots. These blind spots include the sides, rear and front of the vehicle. If the truck driver had been attentive enough, he would have noticed the white Volvo entering the yellow turning box, extending to the lane he was in (aka the second lane). On the other hand, one could argue that the Volvo driver should not have entered and stopped right in the truck’s blind spot. Additionally, his intention was to cut to the first lane when the yellow box only extends from the second to the fourth lane. By entering the box and waiting for traffic to clear up in the first lane, the Volvo driver is equally at fault for causing an obstruction to traffic (which is an offence, according to the Highway Code). If the truck driver had checked his blind spots and the Volvo had turned into the third lane, this accident could have been completely avoided. Another boxy looking concept car which reminds me of the 2nd and 3rd generation Honda Odyssey... For Volvo Cars, electrification is more than simply a shift in powertrains. It represents a new paradigm in car design and the Volvo Concept Recharge is a manifesto for the next generation of all-electric Volvos. True to the heritage of Scandinavian design, Concept Recharge has the mantra of 'less but better' at its core. For example, by removing the complexity of the internal combustion engine, the designers have been able to evolve the car's proportions to increase interior space while also improving aerodynamic efficiency. The result is a car that offers genuinely better solutions to support a sustainable family life. Volvo’s first generation of electric cars shares a floor with combustion engine-powered cars, which requires a balance in proportions and space to be able to accommodate both a battery pack and an internal combustion engine. The next generation of Volvo’s fully electric cars – the first of which is the company’s first SUV on a completely new electric-only technology base – will feature flat floors, as previewed in the Concept Recharge. By removing the engine and replacing it with a full battery pack under the flat floor, the designers have extended the wheelbase and the wheel size of the car. The result is shorter overhangs, as well as a lot more interior space including a large storage area between the front seats. In the Concept Recharge these advancements have led designers to reposition the seats, optimise the roof profile and lower the hood of the car while retaining the high eye point beloved by drivers of cars like the Volvo XC40, XC60 and XC90. This approach creates efficiency gains in aerodynamics compared to a typical SUV, which improves range. This concept car also introduces a new Volvo design language. Continuing the theme of 'less but better', all unnecessary elements have been removed and what remains is treated with a high-precision, flush execution. The traditional grille has been replaced with a shield-like structure, supported by a new interpretation of Volvo Cars’ Thor’s Hammer headlight design. These include the latest HD technology-enabled pure graphic which open at night to reveal the main lamp units. Signature vertical rear lamps connect to the brand’s strong design heritage, but are reimagined with a set of wings that extend at higher cruising speeds to further improve overall aerodynamics. “Our Concept Recharge represents a manifesto for the all-electric future of Volvo Cars, as well as a new type of vehicle,” said Robin Page, head of design. “It displays new and modern proportions that go hand-in-hand with increased versatility and shows what technology can enable in terms of design.” The Volvo design language also takes a new form inside the Concept Recharge. The flat floor provides more space and a better seating position for all those inside the car. A large, 15 inch standing touch screen is the centre of a new and improved user experience for the company’s next-generation connected infotainment system. Designed to be logical and intuitive to use, technology helps provide a serene and calm experience. The latest infotainment technology goes hand in hand with those other hallmarks of Scandinavian design: clean lines and extensive use of sustainable and natural materials inside the cabin. “Inside the Concept Recharge, we create a truly Scandinavian living room feeling,” said Robin Page. “The interior integrates our latest user experience technology with beautiful, sustainable and natural materials. For those who wonder where these seats came from, a quick search on the web showed that these Volvo buses have been plying on our roads for about 15 years (out of their 17-year statutory lifespan) and had their interior refreshed less than 3 years ago before they were taken out of service. Volvo Cars Gives Global Employees 6 Months’ Paid Parental Leave On top of financial responsibilities, the most challenging part of having a baby might be taking care of them while juggling work. For over 40,000 employees of Volvo Cars worldwide, 6-month paid parental leaves await from 1 Apr 2021 onwards, the car manufacturer announced on Tuesday (30 Mar). Eligible individuals should have at least 1 year’s service under the company. In doing so, Volvo Cars aims to champion gender equality in the realm of parenting. Volvo Cars introduces 24-week parental leave On 30 Mar, Volvo Cars announced its ‘Family Bond’ policy granting employees 24 weeks of parental leaves. Effective from 1 Apr 2021, over 40,000 employees are eligible worldwide, including Singapore, provided they have minimum 1 year’s service. The leaves are paid with 80 percent of employees’ base salary, and are applicable to either parent within first 3 years of parenthood. The policy takes inspiration from the brand’s home market – Sweden – where both parents have a total of 480 days’ leave by law. Volvo Cars hopes to achieve equal parenting for all genders By introducing the ‘Family Bond’ policy, Volvo Cars hopes to encourage more men to take up parental leaves. It helps to narrow the gender gap when it comes to parenting, and supports equal parenting for all genders. By setting the 6-month parental leave as the ‘default’, more employees are likely to take it up, as the company’s earlier pilot suggests. This comes amid societal expectations of fathers being in the workplace. Social pressures as such keep men from taking longer leaves to care for their babies. Therefore, Volvo Cars hopes to set a global precedent in the industry to promote equal parenting.
