  1. Hi all Just wondering if anyone had driven from SG to Bangkok before? According to Google Maps, it can be done and the distance is approx. 1850km. I know logistically and financially it is really dumb and waste of time to do so as a flight to Bangkok is only 2 hrs from SG. and budget airlines $$ are cheap. But I just thought the trill of actually driving to Bangkok from SG, and that you are the only SG plate car driving around the big traffic jam city of the world, the feeling would be great haha. I just wonder if there's any potential issues when crossing from Malaysia to Thailand borders. Is our insurance covered in Thailand? And I assume there's no problem using their fuel... Most of their cars uses E20 gas, meaning there's 20% Ethanol mixed into the gasoline. Their max grade gasoline is at 95 octane only. Their regular at 91. I have a close friend in Bangkok but she has no idea if the idea is workable or not... TIA
  2. Hello everyone, I am starting a AMA thread just for discussion purposes.Possibly to help answer some comparison questions between cars I have driven before, from my individual perspective. (Not a show-off thread - as I am not financially strong enough to own a car). A bit of background, I been a seasoned driver, been driving regularly for the past decade. I have never owned a car before, but I am blessed to have the opportunities to drive my friends and relatives' cars on a regular basis, or sometimes. I also took some time off to test drive some sedans recently as I am contemplating on getting one. So far, I have driven the following models regularly before: Kia Cerato Forte SX 1.6L 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer GLX 1.6L Toyota Wish AE10 1.8L Toyota Camry Prestige XV40 2.0L BMW 216i Gran Tourer Diesel-powered BMW 316i F30 BMW 520i E60 XL BMW 523i F30 Audi Q5 8R 2.0T 2019 Mazda 6 2.0L Standard 2018 Mazda CX-5 2.0L Premium I have already managed to clock limited miles on the following cars: 2019 Kia Cerato Forte SX Honda Civic 10-Gen 1.6NA Hyundai Avante S 2019 Mazda 3 HB 1.5L Premium Volvo S90 Happy to answer any questions with respect to interior, exterior, performance and feel of these cars. Cheers.
  3. Looking for tips, plan to drive all the way to Bangkok or Chiangmai Anything in particular to take note?

  5. Yesterday was in a bad mood due to CO being *ahem* un-cooperative in the morning as we need to rush down to Changi by 9am. Later, I was at Tampines Mall with CO and after shopping there, she wanted to go Ikea Tampines. Being new to that area in Eastern part of Singapore, I look up Google map and memorized the direction given. Drove out Tampines Mall and supposed to drive along to avenue 9 then 12 before heading to TPE but ended up turning left somewhere and drove straight into Tampines Bus Interchange. Was finding it strange at first when I noticed people queuing up orderly and buses everywhere. Then it struck me! "Shiiit! I'm in the bus interchange! HOLY MOLY!" I yelled. Soon a couple of buses started to turn in and the first driver wad stunned like vegetable. We started looking at each other...loss for words. I waved an apologetic gesture and he waved back, pointing ahead and waved right. Took off and managed to drive out. Ehhhh . . . the question is, any bro out there did this stunt before and will I get a warning letter or what? Should have taken public transport yesterday, damn moody and not being my usual self. HAIZ! . . . . noob.
  6. ABS, VSC, sharp turns, point spin, high speed drifting and quick reverse. No problem
  7. Let just say I happen to hear about an incident. First car fully stopped, second car fully stopped, third car couldn’t stop. Everyone came down, only bumper to bumper incident. 3rd car front have some damages, 2nd car rear & front some damages, 1st car suffer no damage. Since 1st car have no damages, agreed with the 2nd car’s owner and drove off. Then should the first car report to incident to the insurance where there is no damages, no details of the other 2 drivers. And how can the 2nd car insurance claim for the front damage? He need the VRN of the first car right which he has because due to onboard camera which may review footage later. Then when the 2nd car claim, will the insurance company have details of the first car? Will the first car owner get into trouble? So much for being a gentleman. If first car owner is worry because his current insurance company is one that will deny claims for non-drunkard drivers at their own discretion.
  8. Hi bros, Anyone here drove up to Legoland b4? Issit safe? Thought of bringing my family there over the weekend but some of my frens advised me not to drive up better.
  9. Couple causes crash driving against traffic to exit carpark -- then blames the other driver A couple in this white Honda Civic dashed for the exit of IMM's carpark against the flow of traffic, causing a collision with another car on the way out. According to Stomper Candice the couple then filed for $4,100 in damages after the incident. She recounts the incident: "My god-sister's car got hit at IMM carpark level 2 on Dec 28 by a car dashing out illegally against the flow of traffic. "It did not come to a immediate stop. No words of apologies, Instead the female passenger confronted us and asked why we had not slowed down for them to pass through. "When asked to produce their driving licence else we would make a police report, the female passenger pointed her finger very fiercely right up to my sister's face, and asked on what grounds we would want to call the police. "At the moment, we really felt threatened and feared for our safety. "Not only that, the couple even came up with a story to claim damages against my god-sister's motor insurance, $4,100 for a minor dent on their white Honda Civic." 10. Hi I'm asking to see if anyone has experienced driving a Toyota Alphard in Japan (specifically in Hokkaido would be good). As we're headed there in June, I'm curious about how different the model is compared to the version we get here in Singapore... I need as much luggage space as possible, and as it is, the local version's last row slides forward just enough that I can load the luggage for the six of us.... I'm wondering if the seat configuration (2-2-3) and "configurability" is similar.... Thanks in advance!
  11. I AM POSTING ON BEHALF OF HWZ MEMBER "SPELL" Rear ended by Msia car, driver drove off!! On 6th Dec about 550pm, was driving along PIE towards Jurong on lane 3, almost reaching the slip road to BKE. All of a sudden, a Msia car (Proton Wira WJM373) swerved from the 2nd lane to behind me & banged me real hard. I noticed him from my rear wheel mirror because the traffic was very slow & I happen to see the mirror. My bluetooth earpiece got flung out from my ear, pillow on seat flung to front, spectacle case in compartment got flung out.. etc, luckily I did not bang the car in front. I was like stunned for at least 5 seconds before I recovered my senses. To keep long story short, I got down, saw the other driver, he said he was at fault & he said a few times that we should go make report. he was alone & I was alone. I took out my phone & took a few photos, then called my family to arrange to pick up my kids as I'll definitely be late. My rear bumper & rear hatch door stucked, exhaust pipe dislodged onto the road. His car front bumper dented & bonnet had popped up. I never expect his car to be able to move far. While talking on my phone, the driver said he will drive to side of road because causing obstruction, then discuss next course of action. After finish talking on my phone (less than a min) I turned around & realise that car is no where in sight at the road side !! Really buay steady I called up our friendly neighbourhood police centre, ask if they can help me keep a lookout for this car. Guess what, he told me to just go neighbourhood police post make report. I told him that car could have gone past the causeway by then, he told me TP will follow up. I give up. Next day I made a police report, was told TP will investigate (which I'm not even sure they will read the report at all), report at my insurance reporting centre etc. I was told at the reporting centre that most workshop in SG do not do 3rd party claims if the other party is Msia car, because very hard to claim from them even if we not at fault. Why so unfair to us? Furthermore in my case I do not have the other party particulars. I can only hope that driver will report to his insurance & our local police, though all else point to him purposely driving off shirking responsibility. Should I post this in EDMW, stomp, mycarforum or even Lowyat forum, maybe someone will recognise or know the driver. If anyone got info on that wira WJM373 or the driver, please email to me at spellxrye @ gmail.com . Thanks a lot. I really need advise, what can I do? The photo I took of his car & my car at the scene. my car: his car:

  14. Has been insured with NTUC for the pass yr and found that their price is high. so check with direct asia and bought the insurance from them. but was told my NCD only 10%. chk with ntuc they said for a few times i did not take 1 full yr policy. so no NCD added for polices less than 1 yr. what is the rational for this rule? ntuc said its not set by them but by GIA. Isnt no cliam bonus means no cliam with in the period u are insured be it which ins companies or duration of policies. anyway to rectify this unfair rule?
  15. today when i drive home was in PIE pass by a speed camera was in lane 1 speed limit is 80 my speed is about 90plus almost 100 no time to slow down cause taxi very near my car will kena anything or not huh? thanks in advance for the replies
  16. I was stuck behind a slow moving lorry at Tampines Road, just after turning in from Tampinese Ave 10. Those who are familar with that road knows, it's single lane two way traffic, which means not supposed to overtake. But the prospect of being stuck behind a lorry moving at less than 40km/h for that whole stretch was too much to bear, after checking there's no oncoming traffic, I floored the gas pedal on 2nd gear and went to the opposite lane to overtake the lorry. Wifey was with me, and I guess I scared the sh&t out of her I was just able to make it back to the correct lane just when a Swift was on the way towards me. Hope I didn't cause him any alarm... if I did... thousands apologies. Also thousands apologies to the lorry uncle.... don't know what got into me... Anyway, next time I'll avoid that road if possible, it's not meant for the impatient.
  17. Went to Seoul for work two weeks back. Pass by Hyundai showroom and saw a very nice car...brand new Avante. Walk in to the showroom with my Korea colleague. Nice Very very nice indeed - exterior and interior. I was shocked when look at the specs: 1) 6-speed gear box 2) ESP 3) Auto wiper, light, cruise control, folding side mirror 4) Auto parallel parking 5) 140 horsepower 6) Sunroof 7) 6 airbags 8) Reverse Cam and GPS 7) Keyless entry with Start/Stop button 8) ECO drive feature. on paper 16.5km/L 8) many more All in for just 25K SGD. WOW..... I asked my colleague to do a test drive. In korea, test drive is easy, just pass the driving license to the sales person and you can drive the car off without sales person. So, my colleague drive for a while and I took over. Power!!! I was pitty that on lower gear the engine noise is noticable. On gear 3 onwards, it get more quiet. Cruising at higher gear is just enjoyable. I believe, next year will be the year of Avante, if the pricing is right. Avante - I love it.
  18. Hi guys...I was knock on the left side by another vehicle from right...he was at the motocycle lane on the bridge into woodlands check point coming into my lane. 19. Being Hunting for a Mini Van to replace my 1992 Suzuki Swift 1.0 MT, went to test drove the Wuling Journey on the 22th June 2008. Below are my opinions, please bare in mind that I pass all this judgement based on my oberservations and experience, you need not agree. Thank you. Ride comfort: Having own minivan before, my last being Honda Mobilio 1.5 auto, ride comfort of Journey is pretty decent, as the sales person told me their luxury version will have all round sound clad, it will be even better. But the suspension feels soft on uneven road surfaces. Bodyroll is expected as of most tall vans, overall, 6 out of 10. Build: Weildings are of good workmanship, fit and finish is of good standard, it's like a japanese standard of the nineties, it actually give me a pleasant surprise considering the other minivans that i view of same origin. All gaps are consistent, cant spot any uneven fittings. Would score it 6 out of 10. Undercarriage: Feels and look well bolted together, will get tough coat for the luxury model, springs all round. No further comment. Wheels: Let's just say I will change it upon collection if i buy. Would score it 3 out of 10. Powertrain: Power comes from a 50 plus bhp suzuki engine, if it's true, I will trust it almost immediately considering my harsh treatment of my old swift powerplant. The block is located under the passenger seat. Heat from it is pretty well insulated, sound is harsh when push beyond 3500 rpm. Drive and control: Gear changing is good, gears are pretty close considering other vans that I have driven, hence it's a plus point. All controls are simple and easily access, central console looks and feels good, comes with a flushing surface factory fitted cd radio, again it's a plus. Power is decent, it's able to move 7 but i have to say that journey is best for speeds bellow 90 to really enjoy and feel less stressfull. Crash test: Cant find any and sales executive is not sure too. Doubt that it's tested. Seats arrangement: For this price, I give it a 8 out of 10, middle seats can be turned to face last row, it's well bolted down and leathers come with the luxury model. Stopping power: Tried braking hard while turning and going straight, sales executive is not pleased, wont encourage you to try as it's good for normal driving and stopping, it's not meant to be push hard, my 92 swift did better on this subject. But hey, it's a van afterall and it's expected to be driven like one. Would rate it 6 out of 10. Strong points to consider: Very good air condition, second row over head large air con vents is a plus plus plus! Comes with 3 points seat belts for 6 and one waist belt on the center last row. All doors close with a nice tug. Out look is modern and nice, like the red especially. Very affortable. Weak points: As all makes that does not have a strong presence here, reliability on parts availability and aftersales support. Overall: Will consider to trade in my swift, best mini van of same origin so far!
  20. Barack Obama, car guy From FORTUNE MAGAZINE By Alex Taylor III, senior editor Last Updated: December 31, 2008 Before his presidential campaign, President-elect Obama drove a Chrysler 300C like this one. NEW YORK (Fortune) -- One of the least explored personal sides to our new president is the amount of gasoline in his veins. We know all about his affection for the basketball court and his tendency every now and then to sneak out for a cigarette. But we've heard very little about what drove him to acquire one of the least politically-correct cars on the planet: a Chrysler 300C. With its high torque and horsepower, voracious appetite for fuel and gangsta-car persona, it is hardly the kind of vehicle you'd expect a consensus-building politician to drive. But those are Obama's wheels. Or were. During the campaign he sold the 300C in favor of a hybrid Ford Escape, and as president of the United States, he won't be getting into the driver's seat very often - unless he's at a military base or some other secure location where he can let loose. He'll be spending all his time in the back seat of an armor-plated Cadillac. But let's hope that he doesn't lose any of the love for automobiles that may have attracted him to the Chrysler. Because he's in a position to do more for the auto industry than anyone since Henry Ford or Daimler and Benz. Now that General Motors (GM, Fortune 500) and Chrysler have been temporarily removed from intensive care, courtesy of a federal bailout, Obama will be in charge of the effort to permanently return them to financial health. As such, he could ensure their long-term survival - as long as the market cooperates - or doom them to some interminable government-regulated hell.
  21. This is NOT a review. Went down with my colleague to test drive the Kia Forte. It is truly impressive and amazing. Exterior looks like the US Civic, rear looks like the new audi A4. Interior is as spacious as any 1.6 out there... maybe a tad shy of Civic's generous legroom. at 38,999k for Manual, it delivers a lot of bang for buck, features integrated audio, MP3 USB, steering audio controls, sports rims, instant FC meter etc Avante Manual at 36,999 TOTALLY pales in comparison with this car. Do take a look.
  22. Started at 2230 hrs at Tuas 2nd link. exited at Yong Peng from NSH drove to Labis (encountered several potholes before Segamat) , Segamat then Kuantan (embarking on the coastal road up north) from Kuantan drove past Dungun then to Kuala Trengganu or KT. From KT to Merang Jetty. total time taken about 7hrs with 1 refilling stop in Cherating. reached my Merang jetty around 0520hrs, parked and slept till my ferry time at 0930 hrs on the downside, not many petrol station were openned at night, it took me a few stations to get 1 which was openned 24 hrs. (ESSO at Chukai, near Cherating) my route was planned nicely by my Garmain GPS using malsingmaps (Sept 08 version). Parked at Merang Jetty (RM10 for shelter lot) during my duration at Redang island. Car park is safe as far as my concern. Had a nice time on Redang. on returning, collected my car, drove slowly back to S'pore via Segamat for dinner.
  23. Anyone drove up from Sg to Bangkok before???? can share some tips or things to take note of????? or anyone intending to drive up sometime in mid Sept????
  24. Yesterday, I test drove the Ford ST - wow, I was blown away by the power that I must say is better drive than the GTi - (ok GTi lovers dun flame me) the ride was really power packed and the handling was exceptionally marvelous after the drive there was a wide smile on my face and the feeling of hair swept back by the power, in it the funniest thing was a small Japaness car tried to race the test drive. Btw it was a manual gear. My bro was also test driving it manage to spin the back tires from stand still....woah. With its turbocharged 166 kW 2.5-litre 5-cylinder Duratec ST engine, this engine is coupled to a slick-operating six-speed manual gearbox and capable of a top speed in excess of 240 km/h, it needs only 6.8 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h. Never had Ford on my mind but the German built Ford ST changed my mind about Ford cars. Heard that Ford is launching the All New Modeao end of the month and also the S Max as well.
  25. I didn't know my cashcard expired on 31 March 2007 and today(2nd April) I drove thru ERP gantry with it. What will happened?
