  1. Let's start with this https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/courts-crime/ocbc-bank-customer-lost-120k-in-fake-text-message-scam-another-had-250k-stolen Young couple lost $120k in fake text message scam targeting OCBC Bank customers SINGAPORE - It took a man and his wife five years to save about $120,000, but in just 30 minutes, scammers using a fake text message stole the money they had kept in their OCBC Bank joint savings account. The couple in their 20s were among at least 469 people who reportedly fell victim to phishing scams involving OCBC in the last two weeks of December last year. The victims lost around $8.5 million in total. The husband works in the e-commerce sector, while his wife is in the hospitality industry. The man said he received the phishing message with a link at around noon on Dec 21 last year. A 38-year-old software engineer who fell prey to the same scam on Dec 28 told ST that he lost about $250,000 he had been saving since 2010. The father of a young child with special needs said the loss has been devastating, and he has been hiding it from his family. The bank said it has since halted its plans to phase out physical hardware tokens by the end of March this year, and has also stopped sending SMSes with links in them in the light of the spate of phishing incidents. Cyber security expert Anthony Lim, who is also a fellow at the Singapore University of Social Sciences, said scammers have advanced software enabling them to spoof telecommunications services and send SMSes that appear in the same threads used by real organisations. He added that even if victims did not provide their one-time passwords (OTPs), they would have sealed their fate when they entered other bank details on the fraudulent sites. "Once the victim unwittingly responds by entering the bank account credentials, the hackers' technologies can divert and capture a copy of the SMS OTP issued by the bank," he said.
  2. SINGAPORE - Electric van leasing company EVCo has been put under insolvent liquidation, with debts of almost $50 million. EVCo, also known as Strides DST, is 60 per cent owned by transport operator SMRT’s business arm Strides Holdings and 40 per cent by Dishangtie Green Technology (Hong Kong). The two-year-old firm was incorporated in March 2022 with a paid-up capital of $10 million. The company was put under provisional liquidation not long after its former chief executive officer Fuji Foo and chief financial officer Janice Low were arrested in connection with a police investigation in late 2023. A list of creditors obtained by The Straits Times showed that as at Feb 28, there were 28 creditors with $49.4 million due to them. It is not immediately clear if more creditors had come forward since Feb 28. The list showed that the biggest amount is due to OCBC Bank, which is owed $47.6 million. SMRT itself is owed $38,675, while various Strides-related units are owed a combined amount of around $590,000. Baker Tilly has been appointed liquidator. Mr Timothy Reid, a principal at Baker Tilly, said the company is in insolvent liquidation – meaning whatever remaining cash and assets will not be enough to repay all its debts. Sources said assets include a fleet of China-made electric vans, which would have devalued substantially on the back of sliding certificate of entitlement prices. Electric vehicles left unused for a prolonged period are also likely to suffer from battery degradation. Mr Reid added that all the creditors so far are unsecured creditors, which implies that there is no defined priority as to who gets repaid first. While it is not common for banks to give unsecured loans, especially to start-ups, The Straits Times understands that some do so based on the standing of a parent company or majority shareholder; in this case, Temasek-owned SMRT. As Strides-DST is a private limited company, the liability of its shareholders is limited to the amount of capital they contributed. When contacted, SMRT would only say that EVCo had gone into voluntary liquidation and an independent liquidator has been appointed. Strides-DST chairwoman Judy Lee was unreachable for comment. Meanwhile, OCBC Bank would not comment, citing Singapore’s banking secrecy Act. One creditor, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said: “I’m speechless. But I’ll say that this is down to poor management, poor execution and exploiting loopholes.” In October 2022, the company announced its target to have a fleet of 2,000 electric vans for a vehicle-sharing programme, which allows SMEs different leasing packages, including a pay-per-use option. Half a year after it was set up, EVCo said it would have 550 vans ready from January 2023. In March 2023, the company registered 197 Chinese-made Shineray electric vans. EVCo is the only company to offer this brand of vehicle in Singapore. According to the Land Transport Authority, there were 218 Shineray vehicles registered in 2023. https://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/transport/electric-van-leasing-firm-evco-declared-insolvent-with-debts-of-close-to-50m
  3. OCBC reports outage for all its banking services due to 'network issues' SINGAPORE: All OCBC banking services were down on Monday (Aug 28) due to "network issues", said the bank on its website. The bank acknowledged the issues in a Facebook post at about 9.40am, saying that it is facing "technical problems with our systems impacting our banking channels", which include mobile and online banking, PayNow, ATMs, Velocity and cards. An announcement on OCBC's website said that all banking services were down. "We are experiencing network issues at the moment. All of our banking services are down," said OCBC. "We are sorry for the inconvenience and are working to bring things back to normal." Commenting on OCBC's Facebook post, some customers noted that their credit card payments were declined and that they were unable to withdraw cash. One customer said in a comment in OCBC's Facebook post that her payment for an online doctor consultation could not go through. Another said: "Have breakfast with a client, used credit card and then atm card to pay bills, all declined." Several also said that it was embarrassing for them when their credit card transactions were declined. OCBC said that customers can still visit its branches for urgent transactions. CNA has reached out to OCBC for more information. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/ocbc-banking-services-down-outage-all-services-down-atms-paynow-cards-3728906 OCBC ah OCBC ...

  6. OCBC Bank said it has begun making goodwill payouts since Jan. 8, 2022 to customers who had fallen prey to the recent SMS phishing scam. The payouts to this group of customers are made on goodwill basis after thorough verification, taking into account the circumstances of each case, the bank said in a press release on Jan. 17. To date, more than 30 customers have received the payments. Particularly aggressive scam OCBC said the scam was particularly aggressive and highly coordinated as it preyed on people’s fear that there was an issue with their bank accounts or credit cards. Past cases of SMS phishing scams largely targeted consumers with "too good to be true" deals, OCBC said. The bank’s investigation has confirmed that victims who had fallen prey had provided their online banking log-in credentials to phishing websites. The scammers then acted very quickly by fraudulently transferring the monies out of the customers’ bank accounts. https://mothership.sg/2022/01/ocbc-pay-out-scam-victims/ Question, will DBS do the same "goodwill" payouts for its customers if its customers encounter similar scams?
  7. Any OCBC customers here? Do you guys have problem logging into your account on the desktop or the app?

  9. Not sure if anyone of you uses the business internet banking platform of OCBC, it is not half as user friendly as the personal internet banking. Firstly, the business banking website can't even be opened using a smart phone browser, you can only do it via a desktop computer or a tablet. Once you enter the website on a desktop, on top of the user id, they will make you key in an organisational id before the password and once all that is done, you need to key in an otp generated by the token. They do not even have an option for them to send the otp to your phone. I have feedbacked for them to improve their internet banking eons ago but they are still sitting back and doing nothing. As for their phone app, it is crap and always hangs.
  10. been trying to call in since 11am, still haven't get in.
  11. ok ... searched "Frank" but no results. have been doing a lot of online shopping; esp on Qoo10 (almost avg 500/mth) ... so remembered reading somewhere that Frank_by_ocbc gives 6% rebates for online purchases. anyone using Frank_by_ocbc for you online purchases as well and really getting 6% rebates ?? think cimb's rebate ad was pretty misleading ... spent almost $2k but only got $4 in rebates !!

  13. This morning received call from OCBC security at 2 am. Card was charged CAD2390.05 at CDW CANADA ETOBICOKE ON. Oh yeah I was sleeping at that time in SG. The best part is I have never used this card ever, and it was hacked. Either stolen by some OCBC internal staff or random number hacked. The other card I had with OCBC was fraudulently charged due to CGW database being hacked. Nowadays like very easy to hack credit card.

  16. More than 10,000 cyclists came together on Sunday morning to take part in OCBC Cycle Singapore. In total, a record 12,000 people took part in the three-day event, which took them past iconic landmarks such as the Sheares Bridge, Singapore Flyer and Marina Bay Sands. SINGAPORE: More than 10,000 cyclists came together on Sunday morning to take part in OCBC Cycle Singapore. In total, a record 12,000 people took part in the three-day event, which took them past iconic landmarks such as the Sheares Bridge, Singapore Flyer and Marina Bay Sands. Acting Manpower Minister Tan Chuan-Jin helped flag off the Super Challenge category at the F1 Pit Building, before taking part in the 59-kilometre challenge himself. OCBC Cycle Singapore also saw representatives from various charities take part to raise funds. The event is into its sixth year, and attendance has grown steadily. It attracted just over 5,000 riders in its first edition in 2009. Mr Tan said: "More people are responding, I think not just to cycling but... many sports. And that's encouraging. “That’s good for the growing sporting fraternity. What it means from the competitive angle is that perhaps you might have a larger pool to draw people from." Mr Tan said the government is committed to seeing cycling grow as a mode of transport. But having dedicated cycling lanes on roads here is something the authorities will have to explore further. He cited space constraints as a potential obstacle and pointed to alternatives that are already in place. He said: "Well, we have park connectors, which I think is increasing in connectivity, and I think that's a great way (to encourage people to cycle). “It's not ideal for competitive cycling because you can't really go at fast speeds, but I think for the majority of people when they're cycling, I think park connectors are great. Both the ABC Waters programme and park connectors -- I think when they are fully mature, you will have a fairly dense network." - CNA/xq Anybody went?
  17. There will be OCBC karting race on coming 2 July 2011
  18. The chequered flag was taken by all 12 teams who competed in the Grand Final of the OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge and the i-Resource teams' consistency saw them take a 1-2 finish. Aston Martin Singapore Drakar Racing barely made it into third place with CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing right on their heels. But that's not the end of the awards. While I was processing my photos from the race yesterday, I thought of creating my own list of subsidiary awards! Enjoy:) Note: This is purely in the name of humour so please do not take any offence. Fastest Time of the Day (FTD) - Jon Wu (CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing) Jon clocked the fastest time of 44.064 seconds - this is not only the fastest time of the Grand Final, but also the fastest for the entire OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge 2011 (ie.including its three earlier elimination rounds). Most Presentable Team - Bar Bar Black Sheep Racing It doesn't matter where they finish in the race, as long as they get the most attention off the track, in nothing less than style. Bringing in three race queens during their elimination round in August, Bar Bar Black Sheep Racing doubled the hot factor by bringing in SIX race queens this time. Best Helmet Design - Lawrence Lee (CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing) He had a mission to be the fastest man on the track - and also to do that in his best dressed effort. Although he failed to clock the fastest time, his S$5,000 Stand21 full carbon helmet and its spanking 'bling' chrome design couldn't get more noticed along with his fully customised Stand21 suit and shoes. Best Sportsmanship - Desmond Yip (CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing) When rival driver Chew Hock Ngee of i-Resource KS Rage Bull Racing returned from his stint with a cramp in his leg, Desmond kindly used his Salonpas on Hock Ngee, even helping him to take off the racing suit. My apologies if this photo looks a little 'wrong'. Most LOL (Laugh Out Loud) Driving Expression - Eye2Eye Burners The team from IT company Eye2Eye Communications Pte Ltd has some really cute drivers who drive with their tongues out. Thumbs up for comic relief on track! Most Candid Driver - Jansen Tan (Team Stamford Tyres) Each time he drove past me, Jansen would either wave or do a thumbs-up. Initially I thought he was signalling to his team-mate; then I realised there wasn't anyone standing next to me and the pit is kinda far away. Every time I'm standing at that spot taking photos and he is driving, he was sure to 'pose' for the camera. Every single lap - unless he was busy fighting for position. Most Creative Team Name - Unilever Formula None, i-Resource KS Farrari Racing, i-Resource KS Rage Bull Racing This was a tough fight and instead of choosing one I decided to just make it a three-way win. Formula 'None', 'Farrari' Racing and 'Rage' Bull Racing - Innovation beyond speech. Best Frown - Ron Tay (i-Resource KS Farrari Racing) and Ng Sier Han (Bar Bar Black Sheep Racing) I'm afraid this award only applied to those who DID NOT have tinted visors as I could not see their expressions. There were quite a lot of 'stressed' looking drivers and the best frown was a two-way tie between Ron and Sier Han. Check out the knitted eyebrows man! That's called FOCUS. Most Pitiful Look - Propnex Powerhouse Unfortunately I do not know the name of this driver from Propnex Powerhouse but his really sad face caught my attention. Cheer up buddy! It's just a race;) Coolest Acknowledgement Sign - Peng Malakul (Bar Bar Black Sheep Racing) Team-mates flash all sorts of signboards and cards to 'signal' for their drivers on track to come into the pits. To show that they have seen the board, some nod their heads, some wave or give a thumbs up. Peng gives the coolest three-fingered hand sign... Most Relaxed Driver - Eugene (Aston Martin Singapore Drakar Racing) This shot was taken after qualifying, while waiting for the race to start. Eugene carried this relaxed attitude throughout the entire race - there was an occasion where he was driving by the pit lane exit and Lawrence Lee of CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing was just exiting. Lawrence had an agenda to go all out and fight for position but Eugene waved at him and said hi (they are friends). After the race, Eugene said to Lawrence, "I said hi to you and wanted to talk to you, why didn't you talk to me?" Lawrence's reply: "I didn't have time to talk to you lah! I had to go and fight!" Most Classic Moment of the Race - Felix Lim (Team Stamford Tyres) Desmond Yip of CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing and Felix bumped asses when Desmond made an overtaking move on Felix. Desmond raised his hand in apology and everything was quickly forgotten with no hard feelings. However, CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing paid dearly for this incident later in the race - After this little brush, Desmond's engine died and he rolled into the pit lane. After the marshals restarted the kart for him, he decided to go in and do a driver change. As a result of his unplanned shortened stint, the team had to make a last driver change in the last 10 minutes of the race - dropping them from 2nd to eventually finish 4th. Sexiest Driver - Gerald Tan (CTMC2! PDB Maddox Singapore Racing) Check out the curves in his tight tight spandex! :p Best Teamwork - i-Resource KS Farrari Racing When your team-mate makes a mistake, just point. When you're not sure what's happening, just point. Sorry I couldn't come up with enough awards to make everyone a winner. But hey for making it to the Grand Final you are already a winner - pat on the back! I wish I was racing too but don't get me started...
  19. any one knows who bout tis car which just loves to rev its exhaust when it leave work around 6 to 7pm .. bloody hell think his car beri fast .. onli loud onli .. no need hao lian .. somemore it is damn ugly .. coz everything is zhng black .. if u so hao lian .. then wind down window show your face .. dont hide behind tinted windows and rev so loud when the traffic lights just 20m ahead ..
  20. Take a look around your office now and see if you can visually select three or more colleagues whom you think will enjoy go-karting. If you can able to do that, then you just might want to consider signing up for the OCBC Corporate Karting Challenge. It is the first time that there is such a Challenge, where teams are to be registered under an organisation. However, members of the team need not be employees of the company. That means, you can approach me to drive for your team! Each team will consist of six drivers, two of which are reserves. Registration has already started and Toyota Asia, Aston Martin Singapore and Exklusiv Group have expressed their interest. There are only 36 slots available and organisations are free to enter as many teams as they want, as long as they can afford it. These 36 teams will be randomly allocated to any one of the three elimination rounds and the top four teams of each round will then return for the Grand Final. It costs $3,500 per team to participate, but before you start widening your eyes, check out what this fee entails. Usage of a brand new fleet of rental karts, fuel, tyres and helmets during the course of competition are included of course, but prior to the competition, there will be two practice sessions. The first session is a pre-selection round where teams can bring down 10 drivers for example, and hold a time trial to determine which six fastest drivers will represent the team. If you already know who the six are, then you can just treat this as a practice session. Once each team finalises its six drivers, these six have to attend a karting clinic where proper racing techniques and competition regulations will be learnt. Each team will also be given four complimentary racing suits which they may keep for personal use after the competition. I think that

  24. Any idea what brand & model OCBC is giving away? I am wondering if I need to buy 1 during SITEX and sell the freegift away..... Looking for something that can integrate well with my iPhone as handsfree....
  25. Can any financial expert care to explain? These finaicial experts are really good at comming up with many innovative schemes! This new twist to Credit cards payment scheme, is a little confusing. I buy a $4.8 item using credit card. The end of month charge will be billed to me at $5. After I will settle the credit card bill at the end of the month, the 'overcharged' $0.20 will goes to my OCBC bank account. (isn't it a LPPL situation) So where is the advantage? HUR? When will the 0.4% rebate be given? At the point of purchase? Or in the 0.4% reduced monthly statement? http://business.asiaone.com/Business/News/...1110-99441.html Mon, Nov 10, 2008 my paper OCBC Bank has launched a new feature for its credit and debit cards that allows cardholders to save as they spend. With SmartChange, every purchase charged to an OCBC credit or debit card will be rounded up to the next dollar, with the difference being banked into a designated OCBC savings account. For example, a bill of $4.80 for a cup of coffee will be rounded up to $5, with the 20 cents of "spare change" deposited into the customer's savings account with OCBC Bank. This, said the bank, is different from other save-as-you-spend schemes that offer rebates or savings that can be used only to offset future expenditure charged to the cards. SmartChange gives actual cash savings which are deposited directly into the cardholder's bank account. Those who sign up for the feature will also get a 0.4-per-cent rebate on their purchases. Said head of lifestyle credit Lynn Gaspar: "While all of us brace ourselves for tough times ahead, it is not realistic to avoid spending altogether. "SmartChange helps our card members save effortlessly while making everyday purchases or spending on life's little indulgences." Besides their personal savings accounts, OCBC cardholders can also choose to channel their "spare change" to other accounts with the bank, including the OCBC Children Development Accounts. This would allow parents to help their children save, said OCBC Bank. Referring to the "spare change", Mr Nicholas Tan, head of global wealth management, said: "While the amount from one OCBC card member may be small, the combined contributions from several adults can be quite significant."
