  1. apparently some chee-hong passengers making women drivers uncomfortable. Grab tests new feature pairing women drivers with women passengers SINGAPORE: Grab is testing a new feature that allows its women drivers to indicate if they would prefer to pick up women passengers. The feature aims to increase safety for its women drivers, and is among other initiatives announced at the launch of its Women Programme, which seeks to lower barriers to entry for women looking to work on its platform. "Exclusive to women driver-partners only, Grab is now testing a new 'Women Passengers Preferred BETA' feature," said the ride-hailing platform on Wednesday (Mar 6) in a news release. "The feature enables women partners to indicate their preference for women passengers. When the feature is toggled on, it increases the chances of matching a woman driver-partner with a woman passenger, if there is a woman passenger in the vicinity." This offers an additional layer of safety while providing options for women drivers and users who would feel more comfortable driving or taking a ride with a woman, said Grab. Noting that its partner community is male-dominated, it added that more needs to be done to increase women participation on its platform. "Our new Women Programme aims to empower women to take up platform work by addressing their unique concerns around safety and dispelling the notion that driving is not suitable for them."
  2. What's the implication ? Now they talk about weight distribution. Carrying overweight luggage pay extra. Maybe next time, obese passengers pay more. Double-sized ones need to pay for 2 seats... Airline starts weighing passengers at the gate CNN — We all know what it’s like to have our baggage weighed at an airport check-in. Most of us are also familiar with the “crouch of shame” – the position adopted when rummaging through a bag to remove something heavy, when you’ve been informed your bag is just ounces overweight. But now, some brave airline passengers are consenting to being weighed themselves before boarding the plane. In a trial by European carrier Finnair at its Helsinki Airport hub, volunteer passengers are being weighed at the departure gate in order to allow the airline to refine weight estimates for planes before takeoff. And in a nightmare scenario for anyone who’s ever tried to nonchalantly sneak an overweight cabin bag onto the plane, passengers are being weighed together with their carry-on bags. Luckily for anyone carrying a bulging bag, the weigh-ins are not linked to individual bookings or passenger data. Everything is anonymous, Päivyt Tallqvist, Finnair’s senior vice president communications, told CNN, with only the member of staff at the gate seeing the weight. The trial started on Monday, and by Thursday morning 800 volunteers had already taken part, Tallqvist, said, adding that the airline was “positively surprised by the number of volunteers.” “We have communicated about this survey to Finnair customers via our social media channels and our mobile app, and the first volunteers were proactively asking to take part even before the equipment was set up,” she said. They plan to weigh 1,200 passengers for the winter season, and more for the summer. Tallqvist said that the airline is collating data about the average weight of passengers and their hand luggage “for the purpose of aircraft balance and performance calculations that are needed for the safe operation of flights. Airlines calculate planes’ weight – the weight of everyone onboard, as well as cargo and baggage in the hold, and things like catering and water tanks onboard – before each take off, along with their center of gravity. The weight and trim of an aircraft can affect where passengers can sit, and in some cases even how many passengers are allowed onboard, and how much luggage can go in the hold. Each aircraft you fly in has a set maximum weight for safe takeoff. “While airlines know the weight of all other aspects, the weight of customers and their carry-on baggage is calculated using average weights confirmed by the Civil Aviation Authority,” said Tallqvist. Airlines generally use average passenger weights provided by the European Aviation Safety Authority, but they can also use their own, signed off by the authorities. Finnair has used its own measurements since 2018, but these must be updated every five years – hence the refresh. Korean Air conducted its own weighing program in 2023, while Air New Zealand also did a weight survey last year. Finnair is collecting data for both winter and summer seasons, since passengers tend to wear heavier clothing and coats during the cold Finnish winters. The winter readings will be completed in February, with the summer ones taken between April and May. The says it airline will calculate an average weight from the measurements taken, and will send the data to the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency for verification. The weights will be used for loading calculations from 2025-30. And while many passengers would rather keep their weight a secret, Satu Munnukka, Finnair’s head of ground processes, assured nervous passengers in a statement that “the collected data is not linked in any way to the customer’s personal data.” Munnukka added: “We record the total weight and background information of the customer and their carry-on baggage, but we do not ask for the name or booking number, for example. “Only the customer service agent working at the measuring point can see the total weight, so you can participate in the study with peace of mind.”
  3. My company bought a brand new goods vehicle from a dealer, a Suzuki Every with back seats and seat belts. However I have been informed by a friend that it is illegal to have people in the backseat.. My question is.. is this true? The seats are stock from the dealer and has seat belts.. 4. I have a question to ask: I go to wedding dinner last week, after dinner, since quite late already, decided to send my brother, his wife and 3 year old son back home. I do not have a kid so don't need baby car seat in my car. On the way, got stopped by TP. I explained my situation and TP said after receive letter can go appeal. Now in this case, what will you do? 1. Always buy a baby seat keep in boot even though may use only once a very long while (crazy decision) 2. Tell brother no car seat and ask them join Q to take Taxi. (maybe if you really hate your brother, my mum will look at me strangely too: your car got space dun send your tired nephew back home to rest? [super note: I adore my nephew too]. Plus mum and old relatives never understand new TP rules one: result: Strained relationships) 3. Try luck and drive them home. (my final choice) No, I am not complaining. I take the risk and I bear the consequences. Just think the law so not flexible that those with car cannot tompang those without car and with kids?
  5. Will budget airline follows suit ??? Yahoo : Step on the Scale — Airline to Weigh Passengers Before Boarding Watch what you eat. Uzbekistan Airways will now weigh baggage and passengers before they board the plane. (Photo: Thinkstock) It’s not uncommon for an airline to weigh baggage before a flight, but one airline is taking things a step further by weighing passengers. In a move that will make you say, “Oh, no they didn’t,” Uzbekistan Airways has announced that it will begin pre-flight weighing of passengers on upcoming trips. Related: Man Sues Airline — Says Fat Seatmate Caused Back Injury After passing through check-in, passengers will be put on what the airline calls a “special weighing machine” near the departure gate zone. According to a statement from the airline, this procedure will take place “in order to determine the average weight of passengers with hand luggage.“ Uzbekistan Airways says weighing passengers will ensure safety. (Photo: Uzbekistan Airways) While this seems like a bold move, the airline says that weighing passengers is purely a safety precaution. According to the statement, the International Air Transport Association (IATA), requires airlines carry out regular preflight procedures to calculate passenger and carry-on weight. For those feeling a little self-conscious, the airline has ensured that the recorded weights will be completely confidential. However, the airline does not address what happens if a flight is overweight Uzbekistan Airlines isn’t the first to put passengers on the scale before boarding. In 2013, Samoa Air began to charge people different fares based on their weight. During this process, passengers are weighed with their baggage at the airport, and pay a fixed price per kilogram for their seat. The airline also introduced the “Samoa XL” row that is designated for passengers who weigh more than 286 pounds (130 kilograms). In addition to the extra cost, these seats are also two inches wider. link : https://sg.news.yahoo.com/step-on-the-scale-airline-to-weigh-passengers-126519860737.html Siao leow, I sure kena pay for my weight ...
  6. Remarkable footage has emerged online of a vehicle that has been literally skewered down the centre of the car, missing both the driver and passenger. Crazy stuff. Would love to see the crash video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6-17_uwWmc

  10. What a predicament! http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...disappears.html Woman driver with 2 child passengers gets car stuck on road This car was left high and dry on a road divider at Sin Min Avenue. The driver of the vehicle was apparently a woman travelling with two young children. STOMPer Melvin writes: "This car climbed a road divider that was at least 30cm high. This happened along Sin Ming Ave this morning (Mar 5) at about 10am. "The woman driver and a couple of young children passengers were shaken but unhurt." STOMPer mikael also commented on the driver: "The driver of this car must have been sleeping. "The driver drove the car into the road divider at Sin Min Avenue. What a klutz! "When I took this photo, the hazard lights were on but the driver was nowhere to be seen. "The driver was probably too embarrassed to be seen in public."
  11. Some drivers and passengers still persist in not wearing seat belts, despite the very real possibility that they could be flung out of the vehicle should an accident occur. For some, personal comfort overrides the safety factor, while others are simply too used to not buckling up despite numerous safety campaigns over the years. The issue of belting up came into focus after a Singaporean woman and her son were killed on Saturday after being flung out of their car in a crash on the North-South Expressway in Malaysia. They were on their way back from Malacca. Belting-up is compulsory for both the driver and the car's passengers in both the front and rear seats in Singapore and Malaysia. 12. Have to admit I usually don't pay attention to my luggage in the overhead compartment. Nowadays really must be careful Duo nabbed for stealing on SIA flight While the passengers of a Singapore Airlines (SIA) flight were watching videos or sleeping on Sunday, two men were helping themselves to valuables in their carry-on bags. The duo, both Chinese nationals, rifled through the bags that had been stowed in overhead cabins looking for valuables. In one case, they struck gold - US$5,000 (S$6,300) in a laptop bag. But an eagle-eyed crew member cottoned on to their game: By the time the Jakarta-Singapore flight landed at Changi Airport, the police were waiting for the pair. Several such thefts have happened in the last month. Police reports have been made, and airlines and their crew alerted to this. Copyright
  13. Passengers ask taxi to stop, usually suddenly, at junction/zigzag lines/no-waiting zones etc, whose fault? Taxi driver says "Customer is king....." Passenger says "Not my problem, I am paying for 'good' service..." TP: "Got meh? I dont see anything, everything ok what....." Solution: other drivers better stay far far away from taxis....
  14. I am driving a saloon car and in June, i'll be expecting some guests whom I wld want to bring to Genting, problem is, there are 4 of them and with my wife at the front passenger seat, I have to place them at the rear. Anyone knows whats Malaysia's take on having 4 rear passenger on a saloon car?
  15. Ever happened you fetch your family members of colleagues and when they open doors, they just clipped the adjacent vehicle? What would you do? Happened to me at least 4 times already over the year or so, thinking about it makes me feel apologetic, sian and pissed at the same time, although its not my fault. When I park, I always check if my parking is balanced between the 2 adjacent lots and asked passengers if the gap is OK for them. If I can help it I will help to shield the other car by placing my fingers at the door edge so that my fingers act as the cushion (especially where my young kid sits). But I can be only at one door at a time. Sometimes I see people open car doors very scary. Sometimes I just near my car also witness other people open door bang my car and just walked off as if nothing happen. I understand that in Singapore, parking lots are small so it is pretty inevitable that such incidents happen, but its the nonchalant attitude of the people. Why have us become like that, first world aspiration but still stuck with third world attitude, declining civic-mindedness.
  16. Hi all, Anyone knows if I can just drop off passengers at RWS and just turn back out to Vivo without having to go through the carpark gantries? Or is there a grace period for the carpark? Thks!
  17. Person A proactively asks me for a lift. I say OK but I need to make a small detour to drop off some stuff, which was my original plan. Person A gives an impatient look and asks why can't I do it tomorrow? Person B likes to anyhow touch here touch there and fiddle with all the knobs within arms reach. Seats, aircon, radio channel and volume all proactively adjusted. Person C left shoe prints, plus some leaves, sand and twigs on the floor mat. Anymore irritating passenger stories to share?
  18. Hi All, As above-mentioned, saw a comment by a cab driver on a snap-shot of a local talkshow programme. Something like, "Why should I help the passenger to unload luggages, what if I hurt my back, who is going to compensate me?". What do you think? Regards,

  21. 1. Happened to me long time ago at a Taxi stand. I bought bags of stuff and wanted to take a Mercz cab. The Mercz cab declined and asked me to go to the Yellow cab behind. 2. Nevermind, I went to the yellow cab and he asked me why didn't the Mercz car take me. I told him the story and he came down to quarrel with the Mercz Taxi driver. 3. Do you think Taxi drivers still choose their customers, particularly those drive "premuim" cabs? Regards,
  22. Hi guys, lately there's this thing on seat belts... for me, when i was a kid, my parents car didnt have a seat belt in the rear seat. then when i sat in my relatives car, it was always so fun for me to belt up, cos for me, it feels so " secured", like something holding you. now, i always belt up when i drive. and i make sure my passengers do. which can lead to arguements at times cos they'll be like " WONT GET CAUGHT LAH". cos i don like to say " bad things", so just say " hey, better belt up, later police catch we all kena".. but in reality, *touch wood*, i noe it it will save a life. what really pisses me off is that, i knew a girl, b4 i met her, she didnt like to belt up. when i met her and she rode with me, i made sure she belted up, and it became a habit for her. then later on when she went to ride in her friend's car, they laughed and jeered at her when she belted up.. like " wahh, now so kiasu ah". these pple are bloody childish to me.. anyway, what are your opinions? Cheers
  23. It had been 4 days into the new year and into second working days. Taxi companies are crying foul since the fare increased in December 2007. With the increase of taxi fare from $2.50 to $2.80 and surcharge during peak hours which current standing at 35% of the total fare, taxis are queing at taxi stands in town and Orchard Road waiting for passengers. Serve them right to ComfortDelGro who initiate the fare increase by announcing suddenly the increase in fares. Caught many by surprised. As reported in the New Paper today : quote - For most taxi passengers, the biggest pinch comes when they take cabs from CBD area during peak hours of 5pm to midnight because it means paying $3/- more, on top of an extra 35% surcharge on the metered fare. On Wednesday evening at Orchard Road, taxi queues were spotted everywhere. At the taxi stand outside Paragon Shopping Centre, the line of taxis was so long that it stretched to the predestrain crossing and people had to walk around the taxis. Passenger Madam Salimah, who works at Suntec City, said: "It used to cost $7/- to take a cab from her home at Telok Blangah and it cost $14/- now. For once, I will avoid taxi even if my ride is in AD servicing.
  24. Read a report in yesterday copy of New Paper on the incident of cabby cheats at KL. A reporter whilst travelling in KL for a 4 km ride was charged RM60 (S$26) about the distance of Tanglin Mall to Suntec City. The taxi driver apparently had rigged his cab with a "Rocket Meter" which caused the fare meter to change at a faster rate than usual. The reporter was riding with an official from Malaysia's Road Transport Department (JPJ) who flagged the suspected taxi for a ride. They notice a wire near the driver's seat running under a rubber mat on the cab floor. (see photo attach) The wire appeared to be connected to the fare meter at one end and the other to the button that opens the vehicle boot. How the wire work was not mentioned in the report. So, beware when you are taking a taxi in KL. With the report made known in MY, I strongly believe that the taxi drivers with "Rocket Meter" will target the less suspecting tourist next. Especially Singaporean who will be going to MY during the year end school holidays. Anyone who suspect that they had been cheated could report to JPJ, Complaints and Investigation Unit at 03-0420 2223 or after office hours = 03-4023 6470.
  25. Just wondering... As for me, I drive defensively with passenger.. to maintain image. With no one on board, I'm the crazy car you fingered recently...
