  2. Precisely why one shouldn't dabble with crime in the first place... Like they say: Do the crime, pay the time. And if I may add further: Do the crime, pay the time & can't earn a dime . Having said that, society should accept those reformed ex-cons else they may go back to the old ways & the vicious cycle repeats once more. 4. I know this is random, maybe no one will be reading this thread. It is ok. Just want to know how many people out there still have their dreams unfulfilled. What are the things that you want to do but never have a chance to do it. My list goes on... 1) wish to see the aurora. 2) have every chance to bring my DSLR around the world and take nice pictures of scenery. Possible every sunset and sunrise. What are yours? http://calgaryherald.com/opinion/columnists/fortney-local-veteran-wins-chance-to-realize-an-unfulfilled-dream Was reading this article, thinking aloud will i ever be like this man, live to my 80 and recall that i still have dreams unfulfilled.
  5. although current CAT A COE shooted up to 28K+, and all car dealers increased price by abt 10k, I visited a few car showrooms, found latio, sylphy, altis, lancer, city and korean cars all abt 80k, but the dealers would like to give COE rebate at abt 30k, plus attractive in house discount 3k+, so if next COE only 15k, you can get 18k+ price down, which means around 60k can get latio, sylphy, city, altis and korean cars etc, , it's almost same as previous low COE price, it's quite possible, coz CAT A buyers are COE sensitive consumers, next round CAT A surely drop even if govt shrink COE quota again it's last chance to buy cheap cars in future 5 years, hurry up! forget abt CAT B, CAT B surely break 40k, next round unless you'ar rich man, 40k only is chicken face in your $200k+ car price
  6. Just received the notice of "inconsiderate driving" under section 65A. Fine $170 and 9 demerit points. Can't recall exactly what I did to warrant this, but on that day I was turning right from Balestier road to Thomson road, and filtered left immediately onto PIE. That was the first time I travelled this route so when turning right I lined up in the rightmost lane, then right after the turn I realized I need to filtered all the way to the leftmost lane immediately to PIE. I did signal as I habitually do, but maybe I crossed some double whilte line? On the hindsignt I should probably have lined up in the leftmost lane that allows a right turn. Anyone with experience of successful appeal?

  9. Got chance to waive fine IF tell the truth ?? yesterday was the first time i went to Kallang Leisure Park. so i set my gps on my nokia phone and let it guide me to the place. when i was near my destination, i took an early turn and ended up in the drive through KFC and the ERP barriers went up and then i went around the building and then exited and continued to follow the gps guidance again. finally, i reach the side entrance of kallang leisure park and then parked at the open carpark and went to Mega. after 15 mins, felt abit funny and decided to go outside to look at the carpark signs and was alarmed when i saw that there was no free sunday free parking. quickly went over to my car hopping to be able to put a coupon but the summon slip was already there under the wipers. do you think will got chance to waive or reduce the fine i i write in and tell them that i genuinely did not know about the parking requirements ? actually i was abit blur after i made the wrong turn at the KFC and kept thinking that the ERP parking gantry at the KFC was for the Leisure park, that's why i just up and walked away. Only when i saw the basement car park at the shopping center then i felt something amiss.
  10. How would you do it? How would you change it? What do you regret? I dunno. Been feeling a bit melancholic. looking at the world around me and the disturbances. Does not help that I lost a dear friend last week, to haemorrhage, young only 42! I guess, I would think again about making an impact on the lesser lives and doing some form of mission work. The rat race has kinda forced me to do many things agst my will sometimes...... No solid thinking, but just seeing how my life could be different.
  11. I was behind a black BMW, travelling at about 50-60kmh. Lights turned red, he was still behind the first arrow but he just went through. Although the speed was quite slow and he did not cause any near miss, it was within school area (Eden School). Will you give him the benefit of doubt? Or let the TP decide?

  17. When I read this article, I really . I am not privy to whatever James Bond stuff that goes on behind the scenes but since 9/11 we have had multiple security screw ups like Mas Selamat, Ah Took, people clearing customs with the wrong passport, corpse water and so on. Makes me feel that we had 10 peaceful years more because the terrorists consider us small fries and the Yanks have been busy pounding them. IIRC, Mas Selamat got exposed because of a tip off from the US. S'pore's 10 peaceful years didn't happen by chance: PM Mr Lee acknowledges role of Home Team, S'poreans in staying calm in turbulent times Updated 11:55 AM Sep 12, 2011 by Carolyn Quek SINGAPORE - Singapore has had 10 peaceful years since the 9/11 terrorist attacks in the United States, but that did not happen by chance, said Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong yesterday as he looked back on how the country has been affected by the events of Sept 11, 2001, on the last decade. Noting that security forces here and the various Home Team agencies have worked hard to keep the country safe, Mr Lee said: "We pre-empted, we detected, we arrested and detained people who would have done bad things to us and done us a lot of harm - not just hurt and kill Singaporeans but brought damage and torn apart our whole society and racial harmony." The Prime Minister, who was speaking at the Teck Ghee Lantern Night celebrations in Ang Mo Kio, also said that the event affected not only the United States, but also changed the world, triggering a battle with terrorists. But Singaporeans have lived calmly and the country's racial harmony has been strengthened, and this is something to give thanks and be grateful for, added Mr Lee. "Our different communities have worked together to come closer together, to build trust with one another, to be able to feel more Singaporean, even though we know that there are tensions and problems in the world outside. And so over 10 years, we've had peaceful years, and we've come closer together." Mr Lee said he was also glad to see many families from other races coming together for the lantern festival last night. "When we celebrate the lantern festival or when we celebrate the other community festivals in Singapore - whether it's Hari Raya or Deepavali - we all celebrate together regardless of race, language or religion and tonight I am very happy to see many Malay families, Indian families, bringing their kids here and celebrating with us this lantern festival. "It reminds us how happy we have been and it reminds us how hard we have to work to keep this harmony together for many years to come," said the Prime Minister. Mr Lee, who was accompanied by his wife, Ms Ho Ching, for the festivities, was also presented a calligraphy scroll at the event and took part in a lantern walk with residents. Link
  18. So if I my desire is to have anyone except TT elected, I should throw my support behind TCB? If not, most likely scenario, give or take a few percentage points: TT 38% TCB 25% TJS 22% TKL 15% Tio boh?
  19. http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthre...=1#post57900199 Sounds pretty interesting. Let peasants get a chance to own cars but limited to small cars only. So those who say need car cannot complain about car too expensive cannot buy. Rich people don't have to bother about queuing up for COE. Just pay and get the car.

  23. The following story will probably touch your heart, make you tear...or you may simply displace it as urban myth or worse, troll's posting. Whether you believe in it or not is up to you.... There was this man in his early 40s that could always be seen loitering at the premises of a famous branded primary school in Singapore. He was always dressed in bermuda and a white top By the time this story circulated like wild fire among my group of friends, this man was reportedly mad or dead. Some rumours have it that a background check was done on this man and he was once a highflyer who had made his first million in his mid 20s. The story went that this man had been camping outside the primary school for 4 years, rain or shine, 6 days a week. Parents had been reporting his presence to the school administration for years but he was left pretty much alone before he wasn

  25. Read this Straits Times Forum article. As a concerned parent with children struggling, I find our Singapore Education methods, a few screws missing. The writer said, I quote : Not only the questions very difficult but some were also couched in complex sentences requiring a good grasp of the language, and at the same time guessing correctly what the setter wanted them to do. The smart and above average children got by with the extra help they got at home or at tuition centres.... The parents of average and weak ones would surely be relieved and encouraged if those who set examination papers do so with some thought for the stragglers and strugglers, Ms Wong's argument for a closer affinity between textbooks and examinations deserve the staunch support of all - Parents teachers and administrators alike. Yes I fully agree with the writer. What the teachers teach are basic understanding of the formulae and facts. There is little on Application. Most tests/exams require the child to know how to apply it to solve the equation. Our country wants to create critical thinkers, but its not taught in schools but at homes and tuition centres. Tuition centres and parents deserve more credit for the A*s and not the schools. I may be offensive, I know there will be teachers that go the "extra mile", but few. The teachers are kept busy with completing the syllabus, not by exnsuring the child gets the skill. How sad... The schools and teachers are pressed for time to complete the seriously CRAMPEd syllabus in a year, tell me how can any school teach the child indepth knowledge to handle the exam questions ? NONE. The tuition centres become an indispensible avenue to go to to achieve that, thus our Spore education, viewed from the outside world, looks so brilliant.
