  1. Hi.., usually when you rent car, when pick-up the car, what compulsory checklist must have?
  2. As suggested, what are the best pickup lines you would use to break the ice with a potential date. Asking for errr... friend.
  3. Headlight performance and crash prevention systems are key. Seems logical https://youtu.be/CbOnFMgSsCw Full List here: http://www.iihs.org/iihs/ratings/TSP-List
  4. Dear Sifus, kindly help, afraid was caught picking up my daughter just 45 min ago (around 1810hrs) at Tanah Merah MRT 2 taxis there waiting, stop behind the second taxi to pick up my daughter who is already waiting LTA officer nearby taking camera photos (seems like taking photos of the taxi and my car) Did not block any vehicles for that few seconds and did not cross over the bus lane earlier (confirm dotted bus lane when I filtered from 2nd lane to left most lane) Have I committed any offence? If offence, can I appeal that I am not aware not supposed to use taxi stand to pick up anyone (sincerely don't know or perhaps did not pay attention to my highway code yrs ago). search this forum, no clues. additional questions - how abt bus stop? can drop off (if no bus lane)?

  8. hi everyone, during my recent trip to kopi sua for qing ming, i came across some folks who were carrying away plastic bag full of small fruits which looked like durians. is it durian season now? if so, will it constitute any offence to pick up wild fruits from the forests? can any experts pls advise?
  9. Picking up some visitors arriving by express bus through Woodlands checkpoint, what's the best place to park my vehicle? Ideally it's the nearest possible carpark, so that don't have to drag luggage too far. Thanks in advance for the tips
  10. ok, i know there are many such thread already but those are really "dream" car... not realistics and might not reflect the actual practicality of car choice ownership.... here the deal.. if you are given the chance to choose a present car with terms and condition below, which will you choose? terms and condition: 1) Must drive the car for 10yrs. (change car not allowed) 2) Must be your only car or transport. (dont park at home and ride) 3) Must clock 20k milleage and above per year. (so that you dont park at home with no wear and tear..) 4) Must buy insurance under own name. (dont use your daddy ncd hor..) i just want to have a feel, what car brand is the ideal choice for long term ownership. of cause some of you could afford to maintain a ferrari or lambo or LFA and some even would choose a Zonda but im sure 99% of people cant even "afford" the annual insurance premium of such super car, dont talk about keep it running for 10yrs.. i think with my current income level, the most i could afford to drive is a ~2L car and my 1st choice would be K5, 2nd choice would be Accord, 3rd choice would be Mondeo.. what's yours?...
  11. Sorry but i really just want to vent here. Was at Shakira's concert on Sat before the F1 qualifying. Standing in front of me were these two gals. I noticed them cos they were kinda above average. I would say one was about 6/10 and the other about 7/10. Anyway after awhile i noticed the guy next to me getting fidgety. Then he made his move and offered the gals one of his beers. When they declined, he started saying "my hand very tired!!". So one of the gals, "A", offered to hold for him. Then he continued to cajole her to drink which she eventually did. The other gal "B" flatly declined to drink saying she doesn't drink. So end up only A drank. He then proceeded to try to make some very lame conversation. Some examples (not the exact words but more or less 90%) Guy: Who u work for? A: You know Ong Beng Seng? I work for his wife Guy: *blur look* A: (helpfully) the guy who brought F1 to singapore? Guy: *still blur look* err....u mean not bernie eccle-something? Me: *shake head* Guy (to B): what abt u? (wat are u working as?) B: *just keep silent and dun want to answer* Then he continued on with his lame conversation. I already guessed she had a bf cos i saw she was messaging someone whose name was "baby". Then he eventually made his attempt to find out if they were attached so he asked Guy: so where's ur boyfriend? A & B: (looked at each other for awhile) they're busy Guy: oh....(pause) ya, my girlfren also busy A & B: *burst laughing* me: *smack my forehead* Yeah right, u have a girlfriend just like i have a lambo Aventador. He then started to ask them for their AGE (!!) doesn't he know not to ask this kinda thing espcially at the first point of contact? And worse still, he started to say A looked OLDER than B (!!). Wah lao....He later went on to comment that A was more "sporting" than B (cos B was basically ignoring him most of the time). Felt like he was basically criticising B for being "tao". Basically A took the beer so i guess she felt obliged to humour him a bit whereas B who didn't take the drink had all the right to ignore him. Anyway for 1 hour plus i was enduring the whole thing. Really give guys a bad name and i felt so embarrased. L****e, if u're reading this, get a life! S*****e & A****a, if u're reading this, i apologise on his behalf.
  12. I have a friend that is in a big dilemma. Recently, he went to a couple of interviews back to back. Its special in the sense that one is in U.K, the other in Germany. Both companies wanted to hire him. Thats when the headache begins, but you have to be patient to hear the story. Lets talk a little of this friend. He work for an German automotive supplier which have an office in Sunny Singapore. Due to his work nature, he had the rare chance to work together for the better of 2008 with an automaker in U.K for a project. He was station right in the lion (or a very big cat, if you get my hint) den of the automaker. He had a good working relationship with the people there & hence given the chance to apply & subsequently get an interview. But that was not after the credit crutch & automotive depression of 2009-2010. While waiting for his chance, he got an opportunity for a position in Germany for his parent company (permanent post), & hence went to Germany for interview to get to know the place, & speak to HR. He was offer a very attractive deal (even by German standard) So both interviews took place in the space of 3 days. That was 2 weeks ago. The problem with the job in U.K is while they agree to hire him in principle, the VISA is a major issue that need to be sorted out, as there are very limited work VISA (unlike Sunny Singapore) available. The VISA need time to process, & no granatee of success. By the time the VISA application result is out, he would have missed the deadline to accept the offer in Germany. On the contrary, the Work permit for Germany is a breeze due to the more lenient German rule, high position assigned for me, & it is an internal company transfer. In fact the boss over there wanted him to sign on the spot, but he told the boss he need time to considered. However, time is limited as they need to fill the position fast for an incoming project. His headache 1) Should he took the risk, on his more prefer job to work for an automaker, his preferred choice, & hope he can one day be the lead project manager of a production car or more (no guarantee also since its a hot seat), in a charming country that he is familiar with. Its a big risk if the VISA application fail, as he will not only loses this chance, but also the chance in Germany as well. 2) Or should he play safe to join his parent company in the job that he know pays well, knowing the only thing that stand between the job is his signature on the contract. Its a new country that he did not know if he can adapt, & he didn't speak German too (but that can be learn), but he believe he will be able to adapt to the country. Worst if he can't adapt, he can always come back to Singapore office after a couple of years. 3) Or should he play b------d (at least this once) & sign for the job in Germany, & at the same time continue application for U.K work visa. If the VISA is ok, He can tender his resignation for the job in Germany, & join the U.K automaker. But it is not very nice, & against his value, He also feel it is unfair to the people in Germany to help him process the necessary paperwork to get him there, as well as loss time which they can be used to hired someone. He is in a big dilemma & can't sleep well since he returned from Europe. He knew very well each of these chances do not come often, let alone both, & at the same time. If he is not careful, he could lose both, & never had such good chances again while he is still young. What do you guys think he should do? Any good advices. He need to make a very critical decision soon. Remember this isn't just a job he need to consider, but also 2 fairly different countries to live for at least the considerable future. Any feedback is appreciated.
  13. Will you pick up tokens, chips that someone had dropped on the floor, or left in the gaming machines of casino? Our natural response will be a big YES. Thats free money. But please pause a moment. This free money comes with a hefty price tag of theft. Casinos are well covered by CCTV cameras, and trained CCTV obervers. these are not ordinery car CCTV, they are HD quality mega pixel CCTV cameras. It is true, some people had been charged in court for picking up tokens, game credits that does not belong to them. So MCFers please remember, if its not yours, hand it to casino staff.

  18. Hi all, After some windows shopping and test driving of entry level and larger conti cars, I don't find them necessary more superior in every department. In addition, some of the models that I prefer and is willing to spend are 10 years old model. Even one is rumoured to be taken over by the China car manufacturer. It looks like I'm back to the Japanese executive car market again. I wanted bigger space and decent performance. Still prefer NA than TC though NA heavier on road tax. The below are what I've gathered: For Performance: Approximately Honda Accord/Inspire IL-4, 2354cc > 180bhp/6500, 220 Nm/4300, 1550 kg Mazda 6 IL-4, 2488cc > 169bhp/6500, 220 Nm/4000, 1430 Kg Nissan Teana V6, 2496cc > 182bhp/6000, 220 Nm/4400, 1531 Kg Toyota Camry IL-4, 2362cc > 167bhp/6000, 220 Nm/4000, 1540 Kg For Dimension: Honda Accord/Inspire > 4945L X 1475H X 1845W. Wheelbase is 2800. Mazda 6 > 4720L X 1440H X 1785W. Wheelbase is 2725. Nissan Teana > 4850L X 1485H X 1795W. Wheelbase is 2775. Toyota Camry > 4825L X 1470H X 1820W. Wheelbase is 2775. Their turning radius are about the same. My personal feel in brief: a) Handling and driving dynamism. Accord and Mazda 6 are both competent. Both have double wishbones suspension. Lower profile and bigger set of tyres help them too. b) Road noise level and comfort. Teana is clear winner. But Accord is not too far behind. Anyway, I don't like soft seats. c) interior refinement, including equipment level and features. Still like the clean and sharp Honda Design but equipment level not as high. Mazda 6 is also hype. d) power delivery, especially from 100Km/h to 140Km/h. Honda still excel. I like the paddle shift but missing the S mode. Teana CVT is rough at higher speed but delivery is smooth from pick-up. The others are just softer in power delivery. e) Driver at this class, generally is not concern about availability of accessories, including aftermarkets ARB, struct bars and etc. Honda and Mazda should have no issue if want to do legal modification. f) Fuel consumption. Can't tell. This one really need input from the existing owner. I'm hopping to get 10Km/l. g) The look. Again subjective. I would say Mazda 6 is a winner but it has the smallest cabin size among the rest here. Accord is let down by the frontal look but can be rectified with aftermarket front grille. For Camry and Teana is a matter of like it or hate it. The best combination would be Mazda look with Accord size and performance . Anyway. if no clear winner then have to sit back and wait for new facelift or new model to come in. Hopefully by then have promising conti model at good price . The next in line, should be the "look long" Skoda Superb. Thank you very much for any input. Regards,
  19. A STOMPer, came across this video clip on a social-networking site, was shocked and decided to put it up to STOMP. MCF lauded to be faster than CNA and Mediacorps and its networking further than some say Johor may give a clue where/who these kids might be. View the clip and you may think twice the next plate you pick up from the conveyor belt. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singapor...d=60447#comment
